About the author (2012)

John Blackman was born in Melbourne in 1947 and began his showbusiness career in 1969 at 2GN Goulburn. Since then, by his own admission, he's been ‘through more stations than the Southern Aurora’, including 2CA, 2UE, 2GB, 3UZ and 3AW. He is probably best known as 'the voice' of Australia's longest running variety show, 'Hey Hey It's Saturday', seen weekly on the Channel Nine for an amazing 28 years. John, along with alter ego, Dickie Knee, was a key component of the show.
