Dona Elena Twenty-seven Years Later
Columbia University, 1986 - 336 ページ
As expected many changes have occurred. Smaller family size, better incomes and higher educational status were observed. Agriculture ceased to be the chief occupation of the main providers. Home production of foods improved in terms of the variety of foods produced but not in the number of families doing so. Dietary changes observed confirm the basic Puerto Rican eating pattern and indicate the incorporation into the diet of other foods available in the supermarkets. Meals included increased amounts and more varies sources of nutrients. In general, dietary data obtained showed people in Dona Elena community eating a more nutritionally adequate diet than they did in 1958. The community assessment showed a pattern of growing dependency of the community on the outside world especially for their food supply.
