PREFACE.

THIS Volume carries the Calendar of Fine Rolls down to the sixth year of the reign of Richard II. The object and character of this Calendar are explained in the preface to the volume for the reign of Edward I. The text has been prepared under my supervision by Mr. M. C. B. Dawes, B.A., of this Office, who has also compiled the index.
