VIGNETTE TITLE TO THE Caxto.
Day set on Norham's castled steep,
And Tweed's fair river, broad and deep,
Along the bridge Lord Marmion rode,
Proudly his red-roan charger trode.
And placed him in the upper place
They feasted full and high.
Norham is grim and grated close,
Hemm'd in by battlement and fosse.
The summond Palmer came in place ;
His sable cowl o'erhung his face.
Soon in the castle nought was heard
But the slow footstep of the guard.
