The convention between the United States and the Republic of Chili, signed on the 10th day of November, 1858, providing for the reference to an arbiter of the questions relative to a sum of money, the proceeds of the cargo of the brig Macedonian, was read the first time.

On motion by Mr. Mason,

Ordered, That the said convention, together with the accompanying documents, be referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations and printed in confidence for the use of the Senate.

The articles of agreement and convention, made and concluded on the 19th day of June, 1858, with the Mendawa, Kanton, and Wakapoota bands of the Dakota and Sioux Indians, were read the first time.

On motion by Mr. Sebastian,

Ordered, That the said articles of agreement and convention, together with the accompanying documents, be referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs and printed in confidence for the use of the Senate.

The articles of agreement and convention, made and concluded on the 19th day of June, 1858, with the Sisseton and Wahpaton bauds of the Dakotah or Sioux Indians, were read the first time.

On motion by Mr. Sebastian,

Ordered, That the said articles of agreement and convention, together with the accompanying documents, be referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs and printed in confidence for the use of the Senate.

Mr. Mason, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred, the 4th inst., the convention between the United States and New Granada, to adjust certain claims, and to cement the good understanding between the two Republics signed on the 10th day of September, 1857, reported it without amendment.

On motion by Mr. Slidell,

Ordered, That the original records of the courts of inquiry under the resolutions of Congress of March 10th, and May 11th, 1858, be returned to the Secretary of the Navy Department, in compliance with the request of the President in his message of December 20th inst.
