INTRODUCTION AND REVIEW

THE thirty-second volume of the Transactions of the Gaelic Society of Inverness is submitted to the members and the general public, in the full assurance that it will not only be received with good-will but with a just appreciation of the great debt which we owe to the contributors of the papers which are included here.

The period covered by this volume is from February, 1924, to April, 1925. It will be noted that this is practically only a year's work. In recent years the number of papers contributed each session would, on an average, fill a volume similar to that to which the Transactions have now been standardised. Reference has been made elsewhere to the arrears of publication incurred during the War years. That was unavoidable, but the question of overcoming the present arrears must now be seriously considered, and a special effort made to enable the Council of the Society to publish the papers within a reasonable period of their being read. It is unsatisfactory that the publication of good material contributed during the past four years is delayed, and that equally good matter now being received cannot be presented to members until the former is issued.

Unfortunately, this raises the old question of finance, which is the key to the situation. We apologise for mentioning it here, but feel sure that all the members share our regret that, owing to lack of funds, the addition of several valuable volumes to our publications is retarded.
