Prophet, Prieft, and King, and, in a word, fo to be found in him, as to count all things but lofs and dung in the comparison of this excellent bleffing and knowledge. Thus, by the Spirit, he lives in the Spirit, and walks in the Spirit, and fhows the fruits of the Spirit, in all holy converfation and godlinefs; confulting the peace, at the fame time, of the church, and promoting the love of his brethren, according to that charming paffage in Gal. v. 22-25. His very body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, to whom the duft, of which it is compofed, is facred, and by whom it shall be raised again, in all the perfection of glory, at the last day. Finally; under the influence of this Spirit of grace and truth, he fervently prays to live and die; as one, not of the world, nor any longer his own, but as bought with an inestimable price, and therefore bound, like one devotedly his, to glorify God in body and foul, through Jefus Chrift. Chrift. It is the great object of his faith to cultivate purity of doctrine, purity of heart, and purity of life: And he is enabled to pursue, and to follow on in pursuing, this invaluable object through the Spirit of his Lord, who grants him, in the course of his faith, improvement, confolation, firmness, and undiffappointing perfeverance in all truth and righteoufnefs. In the whole of this procedure, the gracious and indispensable office of the Holy Spirit is exerted and glorified. From him comes, in the first instance, the true conviction of fin by the law; then, the conversion of the foul through the gofpel; then, the gift of that faith, which embraces Chrift in all his offices, and purifies the life and the heart; then, the increase of the knowledge, love, and enjoyment of Chrift in all things; and, laftly, in the fulness of time, the happy and the abundant entrance into the prefence and kingdom of God and the the Father. O how glorious, how in. effably glorious and fublime, is this final confummation, this endless conjunction with the general affembly of the firft-born whofe names are written in heaven! How inceffant and rapturous fhall be the acknowledgements, the triumphant praises, then made to the glory of the eternal Trinity! How feraphic the ecftacy of blifs, when all, of every rank, and every name, fhall, in the power of the Divine Majesty, confpire to worship that Holy Trinity in Unity, world without end !
