A

FORM OF PRAYER,

&c. &c.

The Service shall be the same with the usual Office for Holy-days except where it is n this Office otherwise appointed.

Let him that ministerth read with a loud Voice these Sentences of Scripture; and after them the Exhortation, Dearly beloved Brethren, &c.

THE

HE merciful Kindness of the Lord is ever more and more towards us, and his Truth endureth for ever.

O that Men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness, and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of Men.

SING

Instead of the Venite exultemus.

ING unto the Lord and praise his Name: be. telling of his Salvation from Day to Day. Our Song shall be of Mercy and Judgment: unto thee O Lord, will we sing.

For thou, Lord, hast made us glad through thy Works: we will rejoice in giving praise for the operations of thy Hands.

Some put their Trust in Chariots and some in Horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God. The Lord is King, the Earth may be glad thereof: yea, the multitude of the Isles may be glad thereof.

With his own right hand, and with his holy arm hath he gotten himself the victory.

Morning Prayer.

Thou hast been our Succour: leave us not, neither forsake us, O God of our Salvation.

Be thou our strong hold whereunto we may always resort for thou art our house of defence and our castle. Thou, O God, hast sent forth strength for us: stablish the thing, O God, which thou hast wrought for us.

So we that are thy people, and sheep of thy pasture, shall give Thee thanks for ever: and will alway be shewing forth Thy praise from generation to generation. Proper Psalms, 33, 124, and 145. Proper Lessons:

The First, Deuteronomy, 28, Verse 1 to 10.
Te Deum.

The Second, Luke 12, Verse 22 to 38.
Jubilate.

Then the Creed, &c. to the end of the Lord's Prayer
Then the Priest, standing up, shall say.
Priest. O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us,
Answ. And grant us thy salvation.
Priest. O Lord, save the King!

Answ. Who putteth his trust in Thee.

Priest. Send him help from thy holy place,

Answ. And evermore mightily defend him. Priest. Let his enemies have no advantage against him.

Answ. Let not the wicked approach to hurt him.

Priest. O Lord save thy people,

Ausw. And bless thine inheritance.

Priest. Give peace in our time, O Lord,
Ausw. And make thy chosen people joyful.
Priest. O God, make clean our hearts within us:
Answ. And take not thy holy spirit from us.

Morning Prayer.

Instead of the First Collect for Morning Prayer, shall be used

the following.

O LORD God Almighty, who in the midst

of judgment hast remembered mercy;

make us, we beseech Thee, duly sensible of Thy unspeakable benefits. Let not Thy gracious goodness towards us, in the signal Victory which thou hast given us over the common Enemy, be frustrated by a presumptuous confidence in our own might, and by a forgetfulness of Thee. Let this great and undeserved instance of Thy loving kindness engage us ever to look up to Thee as our Saviour and only Deliverer. Teach us under all the dispensations of Thy Providence to place. our trust in Thy Wisdom; that when Thou art pleased to exalt us, we may rejoice with humility of heart, and when Thou seest fit to afflict us, we may be neither impenitent, nor yet as men without hope; so that in the midst of those awful judgments which are gone forth into the world, we may in our generation contribute to the maintenance of Thy authority, and to the support of true religion, by a devout acknowledgment of Thy supreme Power, by a stedfast belief in the doctrines of Thy beloved Scn, and by a sincere endeavour to walk blameless in the way of Thy Commandments. Grant, O God, that we may use this and all Thy other mercies to Thy honour and glory through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer. Amen.

Then shall follow the Second and Third Collects at Morning Prayer, and the Litany; and immediately after the Prayer, We humbly beseech Thee, &c. shall the following be added. The Prayer for In the Time of War and Tumults.

Morning Prayer.

5

ALMIGHTY God, Maker of the Universe, and sovereign disposer of the Affairs of Men, at whose command Nations and Empires rise and fall, flourish and decay; We Thine unworthy servants most humbly implore Thy gracious aid and protection. We flee unto Thee for succour, in this time of Peril and Necessity, when, in defence of our Liberty, our Laws, and our Religion, we are exposed to the dangers and calamities of War, and are threatened with Invasion by an inveterate Enemy. Vouchsafe, we beseech Thee, Thine Especial Protection to our most gracious Sovereign. Direct his Counsels, prosper all his measures for the Welfare of this Kingdom, and the preservation of our Church, and of our civil Constitution. And let no internal Divisions, nor any other Sins and Provocations of this Nation, obstruct his Designs for the Publick Good, nor bring down Thy Judgments upon us. But spare Thy People, O Lord, spare them; and, by Thy Grace, so unite us in a Spirit of Obedience to Thy Law, Zeal for Thy Truth, and Loyalty to Thine anointed servant, whom Thy good Providence has set over us, that we may evermore rejoice in Thy Salvation, through Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for the Safety of our Fleets.

ETERNAL LORD GOD, whose voice, mighty in Operation, the raging Seas and the stormy Winds obey; who, in Thy mercy, guidest the Mariner in safety through the trackless deep; receive. we beseech Thee, into Thy gracious and Almighty Protection, the Fleets of Thy Servant our Sovereign, the Vessels of our Merchants, and the Persons of all those who serve
