think to make but one, the Hemiftics to be thus divided, read, and rendered WHY DOST THOU RETURN BACK THINE HAND, EVEN THY RIGHT HAND FROM OUT OF THY BOSOM? DRAW IT FORTH QUITE, O GOD, MY KING OF OLD &c. fignifies to complete what was begun, which in this Cafe feems to be the drawing out of the Hand: for God is reprefented as beginning to draw it out, and then returning it back again; for which Reason the Pfalmist prays him not to break off at the Attempt only, but to carry the Work quite through.

If this Verfe were an Apoftrophe [נאור אתה - אדיר מהררי טרף :

to Zion, the Construction might be applicable to it: but it seems more natural to make it relate to God. In this Cafe I would render -THOU art become GLORIOUS, yea MIGHTY AT THE MOUNTAINS OF PREY. See thus rendered, Exod. XXXIII. 6.

V. 6. both the Chariot and Horfe are caft into a deep Sleep.

V. 5. I have confidered the Days of old, the Years of ancient Times.

There is a Word wanting [השבתי ימים מקדם- שנות עולמים :

in the last Hemiftic, and none is more proper than that which immediately follows, viz. : it is accordingly made a Part of it in nearly all the ancient Verfions, viz. thus I HAVE CALLED TO REMEMBRANCE THE YEARS OF ANCIENT TIMES.

V. 6. I call to Remembrance my Song in the Night: I commune with mine own Heart: and my Spirit maketh diligent Search. ban

"that fame Hand which lately afflicted me with "it's Stroke, (V. 2.) will soon take hold of my own Hand:" (as Pf. LXXIII. 23. and LXXIV. 11.) fo God is faid avрwπоаws to repent, when He means to defist from inflicting Punishments. Thus I think ought alfo to be rendered, V. 5.

PSALM LXXVIII.

The correfponding Word 3, which fignifies any Food procured by hunting, countenances the firft Senfe. I would therefore tranflate EVERY ONE EAT THE FLESH OF OXEN: HE SENT THEM VENISON (or, VICTUALS) IN PLENTY. See on rendered Flesh, Zeph. I. 17.

- by fending evil Angels among them. : Dwyn osba nnber] is here a Noun, put in Appofition, and governed of the Verb it fignifies the fending forth. I would therefore render this Hemiftic thus --- THE MISSIONS OF EVIL MINISTERS: viz. not Angels; but THE FIERCE ANGER, WRATH, INDIGNATION, AND TROUBLE, which God employed as the Inftruments of his Vengeance. Thus is the Fire called his Minifter. Pf. CIV. 4.

V. 50. He made a Way to his Anger ; — ' ' pho] Rather HE LEVELLED A WAY --- i. e. "He made it plain and direct, "fo as not to mifs those whom it was intended to ftrike." See Taylor.
