JOHN STANLEY was another Lancashire knight or esquire, probably the latter, who covenanted with the sheriff for the 50 bowmen. We hear nothing more of the Stanleys in these documents, except that 2 casks of wine were issued to John Stanley, when the army was before Harfleur.

SIR THOMAS STOCKDALE.-He was a commander in this expedition, but the Account is so nearly perished that no use can be made of it.

SIR THOMAS STRIKELAND, or STIRKLAND.-He indented to serve when only an esquire, with 1 man-at-arms and 6 archers. The name of his man-at-arms was William Benstead: he was joined with William Assenhill in the Jewel Indenture: he appears to have been with the king in the whole campaign, and to have been made a banneret.

SIR WILLIAM TALBOT.-He had 3 men-at-arms and 12 archers; but in the roll of the sick are 4 esquires and 16 other persons belonging to his suite. He disputes the authority of Babthorpe's Roll, and alleges that the names of several of the archers who served under him had been omitted.

SIR ROGER TRUMPINGTON.-We have only the Jewel Indenture, by which we find that he had covenanted to serve with 3 lances and 9 archers.

SIR THOMAS TUNSTALL.-Another of the ten who covenanted with the sheriff of Lancashire to bring each 50 archers. He also bound himself to the king to bring 5 lances and 18 archers. No Account has been discovered.

SIR GILBERT DE UMFRAVILE.-He indented to serve with 29 men-at-arms and 90 archers: he was a banneret, serving at 4 shillings per day.

V. THE ESQUIRES.

JOHN ASCO. He came with three archers; they were with the king at Harfleur and Agincourt.

ROBERT ASHFIELD.-He also came with 3 archers. Two of his indentures alone remain.

JOHN ASTON.-The Jewel Indenture alone remains. He was to serve with 1 lance and . . archers. The numeral is lost.

WILLIAM ATHERTON.-He brought 1 lance and 2 archers, as by the Indenture of Jewels.

JOHN ATTELBRIGGE.-Of him the Jewel Indenture only remains. He brought 1 lance and 3 archers.

GREGORY BALLARD.-He was dead, and the account was rendered by Catherine, his widow, who was one of his executors, and then the wife of John Burgh, and Thomas Ballard, his son and heir. He brought with him only 3 archers into the field, and probably died at Harfleur, as the Account is continued only to the 6th of October.

ROGER BANASTRE.-He had 1 lance and 2 archers, as by the Indenture of Jewels.

JOHN DE BANK.-He had 2 archers only, as by the Indenture of Jewels.

THOMAS BARANTINE.-He engaged to serve with 3 archers. JOHN BELL.-Only the Indenture of Jewels has been found..

HENRY BLOUNDEL.-He covenanted to serve with 3 archers. He is in the list of the sick.

ROBERT BOLTON.-Only the Indenture of Jewels remains. JOHN BOTILLER.-He indented to serve with 3 archers. NICHOLAS BOWET.- He served with 3 archers, as by the Indentures of Service and Jewels.

THOMAS BOWET.-He also served with 3 archers, and joined in the indentures with Nicholas.

WILLIAM BRADSHAW.-He indented to serve with 3 archers. The archers were at Agincourt, but he himself died at Harfleur. This account was not finally closed till the 6th year of King Henry the Sixth, when it was presented by Joan, his widow and executrix, and Elizabeth, his daughter and heir, then the wife of Richard Harington.

ROBERT BRUT.-He came with 2 archers only. The archers were at the battle, but he himself being sick returned, with the king's license, from Harfleur.

THOMAS BURCESTER; of whom we have the Indenture of Jewels only.

JOHN BURGH,—It appears by the Jewel Indenture that he was to serve with 2 lances and 9 archers.

WILLIAM BURGOIGNE.-Himself and 3 archers, as by two of the indentures.

WILLIAM CASTILLON.-Only his Indenture of Jewels remains. THOMAS CHAUCER, Boteler d'Engleterre,' which identifies him with Thomas Chaucer, father of Alice Duchess of Suffolk, and son, as there is great reason to believe, of Geoffery Chaucer. He engaged to serve with 11 men-at-arms and 36 archers. Two of the men-at-arms died at Harfleur. The rest appear to have gone through the whole campaign.

JOHN CHENDUYT.-He brought only 2 archers. He is on the list of the sick at Harfleur, and had the king's license to return to England on the 5th of October.

JOHN CHEYNE.-He indented to serve with 12 archers.

JOHN CLIFFORD.-He indented to serve with 3 archers.

JOHN COBYN.-One lance and 2 archers, as by Indenture of Jewels.

JOHN FASTOLF, of Castor.'-He engaged to serve with 10 lances and 30 archers, as appears by his Indenture of Jewels, the only one of the documents remaining.

JOHN FEREBY.-Only a list of his retinue remains, and the Jewel Indenture. He brought 9 archers.

STEPHEN FERROUR.-He covenanted to serve with 3 archers, as by the Indenture of Jewels.

HENRY FILONGLEY.-He covenanted to bring 2 archers.
WILLIAM FITZ HENRY.-Himself and 3 archers.

HERR FLORIS.—He is placed in this list only because his name appears in the butler's account, as receiving a cask of wine when the army was before Harfleur.

HENRY FOWLER.-He engaged to serve with 2 archers. BERTRAM DE FRANCE. He engaged to bring 2 archers. DAVID GAMME.-Only his Indenture of Jewels has been found, which is dated at Winchester, July 14, in the 3d of Henry V. He had engaged to serve with 1 lance and 3 archers. ANDREW GRAY.-Two of the indentures remain.

JOHN HALTON.-He covenanted to bring 3 archers.

STEPHEN HATFIELD.-His retinue consisted of 1 man-at-arms and 6 archers. They served through the whole campaign, and returned to England with the king.

RICHARD HEY.-He brought 2 archers. His claim was not settled till the reign of Henry the Sixth.

JOHN HOBILDOD.-He indented to serve the king with 2 archers; but the indenture, for some reason which does not appear, was cancelled, in the usual manner, by clipping.

NICHOLAS HOLAND.-He indented to bring 1 lance and 3 archers, as appears by his Indenture of Jewels.

ROBERT HUNT.-He indented for 2 or 3 archers, for there is a discrepancy in the Indenture.

GERARD HUYN.-He covenanted to serve with 1 lance and 2 archers.

LEWIS JOHN.-He had 2 men-at-arms and 6 archers in his suite. Some of the party returned from Harfleur sick; the rest were left there for the safe custody of the town, when, on the 6th of October, the king marched on towards Agincourt.

WILLIAM KYNWOLMARSH, Cofferer of the King's Household. He indented to serve with 2 men-at-arms and 9 archers. He himself, with 2 pagets in his service, are in the roll of the sick, at Harfleur; and on the 6th of October he had the king's license to return. The rest were at the battle, with 6 supernumeraries. The names of the 2 men-at-arms were Robert Mirfyn and Richard Anlaby. Mirfyn and William Balne, clerk of the king's kitchen, took a certain Frenchman prisoner, whose name was unknown to them, and they sold him for £10, half of which was claimed by Kynwolmarsh and Mirfyn.

WILLIAM LEE, Serjeant-at-arms.-He brought 2 archers, as by his Indenture of Jewels.

WILLIAM LINDLAST, of Frolingburgh.-Only his Indenture of Jewels has been found.

ROBERT LOVEL. He indented to serve with 1 man-atarms and 6 archers on horseback. They served through the whole compaign. There is also a list of 14 archers under the command of a chief of this name, but the document has no date.
