***The present translation of Legendre's Elements of Geometry, the only one hitherto published in this country, is brought out under the sanction of its illustrious author, who has favoured the Editor with various suggestions for its improvement, and with some additions to the Notes. The popularity and excellence of this work are universally acknowledged. It has already gone through eleven large impressions in France, and has been considered, by the first mathematicians of the age, as the most complete and perfect elementary work on Geometry and Trigonometry.
