LA BELLE ASSEMBLEE; For APRIL 1, 1819, and to be continued Monthly.

WHILE there are inhabitants on this sublunary globe they will, in many instances, be occupied in the most grateful of all pursuits-the pleasure of pleasing: for instance, Mr. Matthews, at the English Opera-House, is completely at home in pleasing the public; Johnston, with his Perambulator, in another way pleases the mind and body by agreeable recreation, cum multis aliis; but still inventions in useful trades will always bear a pre-eminence. We are induced to mention this from our own observations of the superior quality and make of Hosiery which we ourselves bave had and seen purchased at Mr. COOKE'S, No. 434, Strand; who, by a small mechanical addition to his Stocking Frames (at his mauufactory), has completely remedied a general complaint of Silk Stockings not fitting well in the small of the ankle and instep.

Mr. Cooke pledges himself to the Fublic, that Stockings sold at his Shop will fit to the greatest nicety; and further, that his large stock of Hosiery of every description, for elegance, neatness, taste, and evenness of quality, stands unrivalled. The many advantages he possesses over all competitors (having his own manufactory) enables him to accommodate the Public either wholesale, retail, or export trade.

Fine Cotton Hose of the best quality and uncommonly cheap; fine and good Silk Hose, 6s. 6d.; extra, Ss. 6d.; fine Cotton, is. 6d., 28, very fiue 2s. 6d.; Merino Wool and Worsted Hose; Half Hose of every sort; Gentlemen's Elastic Drawers and Under Waistcoats, 3s. 6d.; Ladies' Elastic Court Waistcoats and Drawers, 3s. 6d.; also Under Dresses in one of superior shape, make, and quality. The Medicinal effects of Steel, as a Strengthener and Deobstruent, have been acknowledged, for many years, to excel those of all other articles of the Ma teria Medica, To constringe and corroborate the solids, appears to be its primary operation. It raises the pulse, and renders the blood more pure; strengthens the stomach and digestive organs, and is preferable to all other remedies in cold, weak, lax, and humid habits; and in nervous disorders it has the most powerful and beneficial effects.

SEDDON'S AROMATIC LOZENGES OF STEEL Are allowed to be the best preparation of this invaJuable Medicine, and is a discovery of the first importance to the present and succeeding ages, their happy effects being equally certaiú and permanent. So diffusely salutary, that while they restore tone to the nerves, and vigour to the entire frame, they impart a genial warmth through every fibre, exhilirate the animal spirits in such a manner, that they may fairly be said to re-animate nature. In all cases of nervous debility, relaxation, and weaknesses of the system in either sex, whether proceeding from juvenile indiscretions, hof or unhealthy climates, dissipation, excess, or any other cause whatever, they are the best, if not the only remedy. They act not as a temporary stimulous or irritation, but by gradually strengthening and renovating the constitution, exciting the healthy action of, and impart ing increased energy and vigour to, every part of the human frame.

Prepared by J. P. Seddon, and sold wholesale and retail by his ageut, Mr. Giffard, 104, Strand, Lon don, in boxes, at 78. and 228. each; retail also by most venders of Medicines in thẻ kingdom.

* CAUTION.-Ask for Seddon's Genuine Aromatic Lozenges of Steel, and observe his signature on each box.:

THE SPANISH HAIR LIQUID

Was brought from Madrid by an Officer of that Army ;-he recovered his Hair by the use of it, and many others did the same in Spain, particularly after illnesses.

When he came to England the fame of it soon spread, and while it remained in private, hundreds of solicitations were addressed to the Proprietor; which was the cause of his making it public, not only to free himself from trouble and expence, to benefit the country at large and it would do it for a short time, and a fair trial made. most essentially, if but confidence was placed in it

The Liquid is really an intrinsic article, producing more benefit to the Hair, and to the Head generally, than was ever experienced through the medium of any other recommendation. It is also singularly agreeable in the application, and in hot climates, or during the warm weather of England, it will be found to have qualities nearly exceeding belief: one in particular, that after fatigue and perspiration, it refreshes and causes a feeling similar to the effects of a bath; and after fevers, it causes the Hair to return rapidly.

Sold wholesale at No. 36, Bow-street, Covent-garden; and retail by Vickery, 6, Tavistock-street; and Gattie, 57, New Bond-street.

FIFTY POUNDS REWARD.

[153

JAMES ATKINSON having daily complaints of counterfeit articles being sold as the following of his manufacture, considers it equally due to himself and the protection of the public to prevent such impositions in future. WIDOW WELCH'S FEMALE PILLS. To Married Women they are recommended as the best strengtheners after bad Lyings,in, or for Debility, either proceeding from too long Suckling or frequent Miscarriages.

NEW LABORATORY,

No. 55, WELLS-STREET, OXFORD-STREET.

A. PEARS, Proprietor and Manufacturer of the following articles, can, from a decisive knowledge of their several intrinsic excellencies, with the greatest satisfaction recommend them to fashionable adoption, and warrant, that on a fair and impartial trial, they will be found infinitely superior to what are vended at other places in the metropolis.

VICTORIA VERITATIS.

The Verdict of the Jury before Lord Ellenborough, on Wednesday, the 6th of December, 1809, in the case of John Watson versus Andrew Pears, will be ever considered by the latter as a complete triumph; it being a defeat which his antagonist well merited, and which, on a serious investigation, he might well expect to experience. This important decision has established him the acknowledged Proprietor of the Genuine TRANSPARENT SOAP; an article that is daily increasing in public reputation, and which, for obvious reasons, is the favourite appendage to the Toilets of Ladies of the first fashion and distinction.

The Transparent Soap is composed of the most innocent ingredients, so that instead of possessing those acrimonious qualities that tend to irritate the surface of the skin, it gives it that healthy ap pearance which has been long sought after, but never attained in such perfection. It being refined, through undergoing a chemical process, an infant may have it applied with the greatest safety and advantage; and no complexion, however delicate, can fail of being improved by constantly resorting to so admirable a means of establishing the triumph of beauty, health, and cleanliness.-Price 1s., 1s. 6d., and 2s. 6d. per square; Transparent Shaving Cakes 1s., 1s. 6d., and 2s. 6d.

BOTANIC CREAM.

To remove that vulgar redness which obscures the natural beauty of the complexion, and to obliterate, through the medium of a gentle perspiration, that cuticular scrophula that every person possesses in a greater or less degree, are considerations of too much importance to be neglected in the moments devoted to the improvement of personal appearance, especially as the adoption of this invaluable preparation tends likewise to speedily remove all Eruptions, Freckles, Sunburns, &c.

The Botanic Cream is admirably calculated for exportation, for in cold climates it protects the skiu from the severity of the weather, and in extreme hot climates shields it from the effects generally experienced from the powerful influence of a vertical sun.

It being of a more refined and delicate nature than soap, the most early as well as the more advanced periods of life will be equally benefited by its adoption; in fact, it is the best article extant for bestowing on the surface of the skin that exquisite improvement which renders it clean, blooming, and transparent to extreme old age-Price 2s. 6d. per pot.

MALABAR DENTIFRICE.

The Teeth being universally admitted to be one of the greatest external ornaments of the human person, it is no wonder that this invaluable Indian Tooth Powder should be purchased with an avidity, which is the criterion of its pre-eminente, to the generality of articles advertised for the same purpose.

The Malabar Dentifrice renders the Teeth white, smooth, and even; the Gums healthful; fortifies the Enamel; prevents the accumulation of Tartar, which, by being suffered to adhere in too great quantities, is in time the utter destruction of good teeth; prevents the occurrence of that seldom pitied, though excruciating pain, the Tooth Ache, and renders the interference of the Dentist unnecessary. It is astringent, anti-putrescent, a fine aromatic, and for sweetening the breath, it may defy and challenge competition.-Price 2s. 9d. per box.

PEARS' LIQUID BLOOM OF ROSES.

To remove the injuries sustained by the injudicious use of deleterious compositions, and to seat beauty on its native throne-the countenance; A PEARS has produced this invaluable extract from the flower whose name it bears, which is invariably admitted to be the best means of effecting this grand and laudable purpose.

PEARS' WHITE IMPERIAL POWDER.

This simple but effective cosmetic gives a softness to the texture of the skin unparalleled in the annals of art, and consequently enhances the value of the rich donation of nature.-Price 2s. 6d. and 5s. per box.

In consequence of the numerous imitations of the various celebrated inventions of Mr. Pears, he is under the necessity of cautioning the Public against them, and to impress on their minds, that these only are genuine that are signed A. Pears, without which signature all are spurious. He takes the opportunity also to thank them for the very liberal support he has hitherto enjoyed, and will make it his study, by the same pains which he has ever observed in manufacturing his articles, to enjoy that superiority which has so long excited, without effect, the envy of his unprincipled rivals.

PEARS' DURABLE INK,

For marking on linen, silk, cotton, &c. with a common pen, without any previous preparation of the article to be marked. Warranted to be permanent and superior to any other article of a similar preparation.Price 1s. 6d. per bottle, with directions for use,
