There follow studies of aspects of literature from Chaucer to Henry James, and lighter pieces on biographical errors, and on cats and nonsense literature. The volume concludes with a short personal section, including a memoir by Professor Yamanouchi's close friend, the Nobel Prize winner, Kenzaburo Oe.
