Inhabited Houfes, and on Clocks
and Watches; and for granting
to His Majesty other Duties on
Houfes, Windows, and Lights,

the Amount thereof, has been found inconvenient; and it is expedient that the said several Rates and Duties, and also the Duties on Clocks and Watches, fhould be repealed, and other Duties granted in lieu thereof: We, Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal Subjects the Commons of Great Britain in Parliament affembled, do most humbly beseech Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That, from and after the Fifth Day of April One thousand feven hundred and ninety-eight, in that Part of Great Britain called tics on Houtes, England, and from and after the Windows. or Term of Whitfunday One thousand ed by 6, 24, feven hundred and ninety-eight, in

III, and or Lights refpectively granted by the Duties upon feveral Acts made in the Sixth, the Amount Twenty-fourth, and Thirty-feventh the Duties on Years of the Reign of His present Watches, Majefty, and alfo the Rates and granted by 37 Duties upon Inhabited Houfes, ceafe; granted by an Act paffed in the Nineteenth Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty, and alfo the Additional Rates and Duties charged by feveral Acts upon the Amount of the faid Rates and Duties, and alfo the Rates and Duties on Clocks and Watches, granted by an Act of the Thirtyfeventh Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, fhall feverally cease and determine; fave and except in all Cafes relating to the demanding, recovering, receiving, or paying any Arrears thereof refpectively, which may, on the faid Fifth Day of April One thousand seven hundred and ninety-eight, and the Term of Whitfunday One thousand feven hundred and ninety-eight, in

England and Scotland refpectively, remain unpaid, or any Fine, Penalty, or Forfeiture, Fines, Penalties, or Forfeitures, relating thereto refpectively, which fhall have been incurred at any Time before the faid Fifth Day of April One thoufand feven hundred and ninetyeight, and the Term of Whitfunday One thousand feven hundred and ninety-eight, respectively as aforefaid; fave alfo and except the Additional Rates and Duties granted by an Act, paffed in the present Seffion of Parliament, intituled, An Act for granting to His Majefty, an Aid and Contribution for the Profecution of the War.

II. And be it further enacted, That, from and after the faid Fifth Day of April One thousand feven hundred and ninety-eight, in England, and from and after the Term of Whitfunday One thoufand feven hundred and ninety-eight, in Scotland, in lieu and instead of the said Rates and Duties by this Act repealed,

pealed, there fhall be affeffed, raised, levied, and paid, unto and for the Ufe of His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, upon Houses, Windows, and Lights, and upon Inhabited Houses, the feveral Rates and Duties refpectively inferted, defcribed, and fet forth in the several Schedules marked A. and B. hereunto annexed; which feveral Schedules, and the Rules therein contained, shall be deemed and conftrued a Part of this Act, as if the fame were incorporated therewith.

III. And be it further enacted, Affeffments to That every Affeffment to be made be made for a by virtue of this Act in England, charged upon the Occupiers. fhall be in Force for One whole Year, from the Fifth Day of April in the Year in which the fame fhall be made; and every fuch Affeffment to be made in Scotland, fhall be in Force for One whole Year, from, the Term of Whitfunday in the Year in which the fame fhall be made; and the Duties to be levied upon any fuch Affeffments to be made
