Next Row.-Pearl knitting, cast off rather tightly. For the Band take up the stitches just cast off on No. 12 Needles. 1st Row.-Pearl knitting.

2nd Row.-Plain knitting.

3rd Row.-Pearl knitting.

Pass the wool twice over the pin, knit 2 together, repeat. Pearl knitting, taking off the twisted stitch as one.

Plain row.

Pearl row, cast off loosely.

The roll must be made up with a little fine wadding, and the head and curtain lined with White Sarsnet before making up. To divide the roll from the head turn it on the wrong side and run a minute tuck with wool, after which roll the wadding inside it; make up the hood with wool and run a satin ribbon through the band, also through the bottom of the curtain, and twice across the head.

For the Netted Rosette.

Meshes No. 7 and 10, and a flat Mesh three-quarters of an inch wide.

Make a foundation of 200 stitches, net 2 rows with No. 7 mesh. 3rd. A row of wool doubled, with flat mesh.

4th.-Single wool, with No. 10 mesh splitting the stitches of the last row.

5th.-Dacca silk with the same mesh. Make up the Rosette and fasten it on the left side of the Hood.

NETTED DOYLEY.

No. 24 or 30, Raworth's Crochet Thread. 4 Round Meshes, Nos. 5, 7, 10, 14. 1 Flat Mesh three-eighths of an inch wide.

1st. Round.-Make a small loop in the cotton, and net 6 stitches into it with No. 14 mesh; make it round by commencing the next row in the 1st stitch, instead of turning back. This and the 3 following rows are best netted with a rug needle instead of a netting needle.

2nd Round.-Increase double by netting 2 stitches into 1 loop, which will make 12 stitches.

3rd Round.-Increase as in last row making 24 stitches. 4th Round. A plain round without increasing.

5th Round.-Cotton twice round the mesh, net 1 stitch, cotton once round the mesh, net another, both into the same loop, which will make 1 long and 1 short stitch into every loop of

last row.

6th Round.-1 long and 2 short stitches into the long stitch in last row.

7th, 8th and 9th Rounds.-Same as the last.

10th Round.-No. 5 mesh, 8 stitches into every long stitch of last row.

11th and 12th Rounds.-2 plain rounds with No. 14 mesh. 13th Round.-No. 5 mesh, 1 plain round.

14th Round.-1 round with the flat mesh, taking up 8 stitches of the last row into 1 stitch.

15th Round.-Flat mesh, 1 plain row, there should be 24 stitches in this round.

16th Round.-No. 5 mesh, net 8 stitches into every stitch of last row.

17th Round.-A plain round with No. 14 mesh.

18th, 19th and 20th Rounds.-The same as the last.

21st Round.-No. 10 mesh, netting into every alternate stitch. 22nd and 23rd Rounds.-2 plain rows same mesh.

24th Round.-No. 7 mesh, net into every alternate stitch. When washed this Doyley will become perfectly flat.

ROYAL CAKE SERVIETTE.

No. 16, Raworth's Crochet Thread. Steel Crochet Hook.

At the termination of every round cut off the thread, and tie it at the back, commencing the next round in a different part. It is always better to begin with 3 chain where a long stitch commences the row, or 4 chain when the thread is twisted twice, and this in addition to whatever number of chain stitches may be directed.

1st Round.-Make a chain of 15 stitches, crochet the 1st and last loop together and work a row of D°, taking care to have 15 stitches only.

2nd Round.-Twist the thread twice over the hook for the long stitches in this row only, I long into every chain of last row, making 3 chain at top between each long stitch, count the loops and see that there are an equal number of fives in the round, then work a round of Do.

3rd Round.—2 long into 1 loop, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop, *3 chain, 2 long into 4th loop, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop, repeat from.*

4th Round.-D under centre of the 3 chain, 9 long under the 5 chain, repeat.

5th Round.—3 De the 1st on the 4th long stitch, 9 chain, repeat.

6th Round.-A round of D increasing 3 stitches in the round. There should be 147 stitches.

7th Round.-1 long, 3 chain, 1 long into every 3rd loop, repeat from. There should be 49 long stitches.

8th Round.-2 long into the centre loop of the 3 chain in last row, 3 chain, repeat.

9th Round.-3 long into the centre loop of the 3 chain, 1 chain, repeat.

10th Round.-2 long into successive loops, *4 chain, 2 long, the 1st into 3rd loop, repeat from.* There should be 49 double stitches.

11th Round.-2 long successively into the 2 centre loops of the 4 chain, 5 chain, repeat.

12th Round.—3 long successively into the centre loops of the 5 chain, 5 chain, repeat.

15th Round.-3 chain, 2 long into 5th loop, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop, *3 chain, 2 long into 6th loop, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop, repeat from,* 3 times more, 3 chain, 18 De stitches, the 1st into 5th loop, repeat from beginning.

16th Round.-16 D stitches, the 1st on the 2nd De stitch, 3 chain, *9 long under the 5 chain, De under centre of 3 chain, repeat from,* 4 times more, 3 chain, repeat from beginning.

17th Round.—14 D° stitches, the 1st on the 2nd D° stitch, 3 chain, D on 1st long stitch, 3 chain, *2 long, both on 4th long stitch, 1 chain, 1 long into next loop, 1 chain, 2 long into next loop, 3 chain, repeat from,* 4 times more, 3 chain, D on last long stitch, 3 chain, repeat from beginning.

18th Round.—1 long on 2nd D stitch, 3 chain, 1 long into 2nd loop, 3 chain, 1 long into 3rd loop, 3 chain, 1 long into 3rd loop, 3 chain, 1 long into 3rd loop, 3 chain, 9 long, the 1st into the 1st loop on the right hand side of the 5 long in last row, *3 chain, 9 long, the 1st into the 2nd loop, repeat from,* 3 times more, 3 chain, and repeat from beginning.

19th Round.-7 long, the 1st on the 2nd of the 9 long, 5 chain, repeat this 4 times more, 5 chain, 1 long on 2nd long, 3 chain, 1 long on next long, 3 chain, 1 long on next long, 5 chain, repeat from beginning.

20th Round.-*5 long, the 1st on 2nd long in last row, 7 chain, repeat from, *4 times more, 6 chain, 1 long on long, 3 chain, 1 long on long, 3 chain, 1 long on long, 6 chain, repeat from beginning.

21st Round.—*3 long, the 1st on the 2nd long, 5 chain, 1 long into 5th loop, 5 chain, repeat from,* 4 times more, then 7 chain, 3 Do, the centre stitch over the centre long stitch in last row, 7 chain, repeat from beginning.

22nd Round.-3 D° over the D°, *7 chain, 1 long on the centre stitch of the 3 long, 7 chain, 3 D°, the centre stitch over the 1 long, repeat from,* 4 times more, 7 chain, and repeat from beginning.

For the inside Border.

Thread and Hook as before.

1st Round.-Make a chain of 275 stitches, crochet the 1st and last loop together, and work a row of D°, taking care that there are only 275 stitches.

2nd Round.—10 D stitches, 3 chain, 2 long, both into 6th loop from last D stitch, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop,* 3 chain, 2 long, both into 5th loop, 5 chain, 2 long into next loop, repeat from,* 3 times more, 3 chain, repeat from beginning, the 1st De stitch into the 6th loop.
