THE First Volume of THE PUBLISHERS' CIRCULAR being now completed, the Proprietors avail themselves of this opportunity to recapitulate the objects for which it was established, and the plan on which it is conducted.

The PUBLISHERS' CIRCULAR is not the speculation of an individual, but was planned by the principal Publishers of London, who were anxious to establish some authorized medium for the publication of their Advertisementssome channel in which all persons interested in LITERATURE might be certain of seeing the FIRST announcement of every new Literary undertaking, and the first intelligence of its appearance, as well as to secure for it a wide circulation among the persons for whose information it was intended. To attain these objects, it was determined to prepare a list of names of influential persons for whom it was conceived THE CIRCULAR would possess the greatest interest, and who, by the constant perusal of it, would best forward the aim of Advertisers, and to whom it should be regularly and gratuitously transmitted. This attempt, the Proprietors are happy to say, has been eminently successful. It is, they have no hesitation in saying, the first and only CATALOGUE of the Works pUBLISHED↓ IN GREAT BRITAIN approaching completeness. They believe that, with few exceptions, every book as it is published is included in it, either by Advertisement or by means of a Periodical List; though as some Works are not advertised at all, it is possible that omissions may occasionally occur. In Germany it is the custom to send the Title, Number of Pages, and Price of every New Work, to the Publisher of the Annual Catalogue, which is thus sure to be complete. It is much to be wished that all Publishers would send to THE CIRCULAR One Advertisement of every New Work and New Edition which they publish; and when the small expense and great benefit of so doing are considered, the Proprietors confidently hope that in future this suggestion will be
