(1) Let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him; remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

(m) The righteous considereth the cause of the poor, but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

(2) The brethren of the poor do hate him, his friends go far from him; he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him: But the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth; he is ever merciful, and lendeth. He withholdeth not the poor from their desire, nor causeth the eyes of the widow to fail: He eateth not his morsel alone, but the fatherless eateth thereof; neither will he see any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering. For he saith, Did not he that made me in the womb, make him? Did not one fashion us in the womb?

(0) If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food; and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled: Notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body, what doth it profit?

he purposeth in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.

(r) Take heed that ye do not your alms before 'men, to be seen of them, that ye may have glory of men: But when thou dost thine alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth; that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

(s) Blessed is he that considereth the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. But whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

(w) Whosoever shall see any of the disciples of Christ an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and shall minister. unto him; when the Son of man shall come in his glory, he shall say unto them, Inasmuch as ye have done thus unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me, and they shall go into life eternal.

(y) Whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

CANDOUR.

In judging.

(a) Judge not, that ye be not judged; condemn not, that ye be not condemned: For with what judg ment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

(b) Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man that hath done well have praise of God.

(c) Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? To his own master he standeth or falleth,

(d) But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ.

(e) So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God; let us not therefore judge one another any more.

(i) Take no heed unto all words that are spoken, lest thou hear thy servant curse thee. For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.

(k) Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

(1) Thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest, when thou that judgest dost the same things; for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

(m) He that is without'sin among you, let him first cast a stone at his neighbour.

(p) Thou shalt not raise a false report.

(9) He that covereth a transgression, seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter, separateth very friends.

(r) He that uttereth a slander is a fool.

(t) Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

(z) All that watch for iniquity shall be cut off; and they that make a man an offender for a word. (w) Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, he shall be cut off. And revilers shall not inherit

(x) The wicked shall be ashamed, and put to silence, which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
