1st. Every junior member wishing to procure books from the library, shall deposit five dollars with the librarian. This sum shall be repaid, provided the book or books borrowed shall be returned in good order, and in conformity with the regulations on the subject.

2dly. Promissory notes, to the amount of twenty dollars, shall be demanded from honorary members, in lieu of the pecuniary deposit.

3dly. Members are entitled to borrow only one volume at a time, excepting where another is necessary for the illustration, by plans, plates, &c. of the first. But two volumes of any work in duodecimo may be obtained at one time.

4th. A duodecimo, or journal, must be returned within one week; an octavo or quarto within two weeks.

5th. The librarian shall keep a list of the volumes loaned, together with the name of the persons to whom loaned, and of the date of the loan.

6th. The loan of any book may be repeated, if no other person apply for it.

7th. On those who fail to return books within the specified time, the following fines shall be imposed: twelve and a half cents for the first week, twenty-five for the second, and so on, doubling the fine for every succeeding week until the sixth, when the book not having been returned, the amount deposited shall be forfeited, and the defaulter shall pay also to the society the value of the book or books detained, or return them to the society.
