OF THE HOUSE OF LANCASTER. BY HENRY HARTWRIGHT., It well may serve to while an hour away, Nor does the volume ask for more renown.' LONDON: ELLIOT STOCK, 62, PATERNOSTER ROW, E.C. 1897. PREFACE. Τ' HE fourteenth and fifteenth centuries are full of interest to English people. This story of the times is put together in a series of sketches drawn from various sources, and does not lay claim to being a history, properly so called. An endeavour has been made to render it more life-like by giving an accurate account, as far as possible, of the family of each of the principal characters introduced, instead of merely a string of names. The book was originally commenced and intended only for young people, but it is hoped that it may also be received with favour by their elders. |
