contemporary print. We are confident, however,
that there is liberality enough in the lovers of litera-
ture to pardon an occafional overfight of this kind.

And here we are defirous of rendering an act of
justice to a very respectable individual: we find that
fome of the admirable pieces of humour copied in our
last volume from the Anti-Gallican, were originally
published (among a numerous collection of Loyal
and Patriotic Papers) by Mr. Afperne, Bookfeller, of
Cornhill; whofe profeffional exertions, at the critical
'period when it feemed neceffary to roufe the ancient
fpirit of the country to refift the audacious darings of
France, we remember, were duly appreciated, and, we
hope, liberally recompenfed by the Public.-The ar-
ticles alluded to ought, of course, to have been affigned
to their original publisher; but as we were not aware
of the circumftance till our volume was in circulation,
we think it more honourable to make a late reparation
than none.

The hint was given by the Critic who reviewed our Seventh
Volume, in The European Magazine for March 1804, p. 217–219.
