Q. 93. Which are the facraments of the New Testament? A. The facraments of the New Testament are, Baptism y, and the Lord's fupper z.

94. What is baptism ?

A. Baptifm is a facrament, wherein the washing with water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghoft a, doth fignify and feal our ingrafting into Chrift, and partaking of the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord's b.

Q. 95. To whom is baptifm to be adminiftred?

A. Baptifm is not to be adminiftred to any that are out of the visible church, till they profess their faith in Christ, and obedience to him c; but the infants of fuch as are members of the vifible church are to be baptized d. Q.96. What is the Lord's jupper?

Q. 97. What is required to the worthy receiving of the Lord's Supper?

A. It is required of them that would worthily partake of the Lord's fupper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to difcern the Lord's bodyf, of their faith to feed upon himg, of their repentance h, love i, and new o

without hands, in putting off the body of the fins of the flesh, by the circumcifion of Chrift: v. 12. Q. 99. What rule hath God given for our direction in prayer? · A. The whole word of God is of use to direct us in prayerr; but the special rule of direction is that form of prayer which Chrift taught his difciples, commonly called, The Lord's prayer f

Q. 100. What doth the preface of the Lord's prayer teach us? A. The preface of the Lord's prayer (which is, Our Father which art in heaven t),teacheth us to draw near to God with all holy reverence and confidence, as children to a Father, able and ready to help usv; and that we should pray with, and for others w. Q.101. that love him, and to them that keep his commandments.

101. What do we pray for in the first petition?

In the first petition (which is, Hallowed be thy namex), we pray, That God would enable us and others to glorify him in all that whereby he maketh himself knowny; and that he would difpofe all things to his own glory z.

Q. 102. What do we pray for in the fecond petition?

A. In the fecond petition (which is, Thy kingdom come a), we pray, That Satan's kingdom may be deftroyed b; and that the kingdom of grace may be advanced c, ourselves and others brought into it, and kept in it d; and that the kingdom of glory may be haftened e.

Q. 103. What do we pray for in the third petition? A. In the third petition (which is, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven f), we pray, That God, by his grace, would make us able and willing to know, obey, and fubmit to his will in all things g, as the angels do in heaven h. Q. 104.

Q. 104. What do we pray for in the fourth petition?

A. In the fourth petition (which is, Give us this day our daily bread i), we pray That of God's free gift, we may receive a competent portion of the good things of this life, and enjoy his bleffing with them k.

Q. 105. What do we pray for in the fifth petition?

A. In the fifth petition (which is, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors 1), we pray, That God for Christ's fake, would freely pardon all our fins m; which we are the rather encouraged to afk, because, by his grace,

teftimonies, and not to covetouf nefs. Matth. xxvi. 39. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, faying, O my Father, if it be poffible, let this cup pass from me nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. 2 Sam. xv. 25. And the king faid unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I fhall find favour in the eyes of the Lord, he will bring me again, and fhew me both it, and his habitation. Job i. 21. And (Job) faid, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked fhall I return thither, the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; bleffed be the name of the Lord.
