Manor of Wimbledon in the•County of Surrey.

The General Court Baron of the Right Honourable Hugh Earl of Marchmont and Beversham Filmer Esquire Lords of the said Manor (by them holden in Trust for John Spencer Esquire) held for the said Manor at the Bowling Green House, at Putney, within the said Manor, on Wednesday the Seventeenth day of August, In the thirty-first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth: and in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and fifty-seven by John Chapone Gentleman Steward there.

Consent for John Spencer Esq. to inclose part of the wast within his park.

Also at this Court, the Homage aforesaid with divers other Copyhold and Freehold Tenants of this Manor, do consent and agree, that John Spencer Esq., may be at liberty at his pleasure, to take in and inclose by pales or otherwise into his park, adjoining to Wimbledon Common, a certain piece or parcel of land lying on the said Common, and part of the wast of the said Manor, beginning at Bignal Bridge, and so continued along

by the road side, leading from London to Wimbledon southwards, to within three hundred and fifteen feet or thereabouts of the brick wall belonging to

Banks Esq., and extending in length eastwards from the road side, to the corner of the said brick wall, one hundred and eighty-five feet or thereabouts, as the same hath been this day marked out and staked off from the said Common by the said Homage.

[Then follows a similar entry in reference to Henry Banks of Wimbledon Esq. for ground on the same Common, containing in length from south to north three hundred and fifteen feet, beginning at the corner of a brick wall belonging to the said Henry Banks, and in breadth from north to east one hundred and eightyfive feet or thereabouts Granted as before for 21 years rent blank and in the margin]-N. This license was not made out vide Court of 9 October 1758.

Also at this Court, the Homage aforesaid, with the consent of divers other copyhold and freehold tenants of this Manor, do consent and agree, that Henry Banks of Wimbledon Esq., may inclose and fence in, by pale, hedge, ditch or otherwise, a certain piece or parcel of land, lying on Wimbledon Common near the high road, leading from London to Wimbledon and part of the wast of the said Manor, abutting north upon the park pale of John Spencer Esq., south upon a brickwall of the said Henry Banks, east upon another wall of the said Henry Banks built before his gardener's

house, and west upon the said highway; and which said piece of ground contains in length from the said first-mentioned brickwall, to the said park pale three hundred and fifteen feet (be the same more or less) and in length by the said wall, before the said gardener's house, two hundred and seventy feet (be the same more or less) and in depth by the said park pale, one hundred and eighty-five feet (be the same more or less) and in depth by the said first-mentioned wall one hundred and eighty-seven feet [&c. under such rent and term as the Lords should think fit].

Also the homage aforesaid, with the consent of divers other copyhold and freehold tenants of the said Manor, do consent and agree, that John Lawson of Wimbledon Esquire, may inclose and fence in by pale, hedge, ditch or otherwise, a certain piece or parcel of land, lying on Wimbledon Common, partly before the several houses lately erected by the said John Lawson, and partly before the lands of the said John Lawson, abutting south on the said houses, and lands north on the highway, leading from Wimbledon to Comb; and which said piece of ground begins at a style, leading to the Ridgway, and contains in depth from the said style to the said road ten feet (be the same more or less) and from thence running to a point from north to west, three hundred and eighty-two feet (be the same more or less) and running in a strait line from the said point to the Hatch Gate, leading to Comb four hundred and eighteen feet (be the same more or less) and contains in depth in the widest part thereof nine feet six inches (be the same more or less) and in other part thereof five feet only; and running from the said gate to the hedge in the said lane, in length one hundred and seven feet (be the same more or less) and in depth from the corner of the said hedge fifty feet (be

the same more or less) and that the said John Lawson his executors, administrators, and assigns may hold and enjoy the said piece of ground for such term and terms, and under such rent and conditions as the Lords of the said Manor, for the time being shall from time to time think fit.

Consent for the Vicar of Wimbledon and others, to hold a piece of waste, for the use of a Charity School.

And also at this Court, the Homage aforesaid, with the consent of divers other copyhold and freehold tenants of the said Manor, do consent and agree, that the Reverend John Cooksey, clerk, Master of Arts, Vicar of Wimbledon, in the county of Surry, and Zachary Chambers, Benjamin Hayes, Henry Banks, Thomas Lewis, William Wilberforce, and William Southouse, all of Wimbledon aforesaid, Esquires, may inclose and fence in, by pale, hedge, ditch or otherwise, a certain piece or parcel of land, lying on Wimbledon Common, near the workhouse and part of the wast of the said Manor for the use of a Charity School and other purposes: which piece of ground, containeth in the whole by estimation two acres and thirty-one rodd (be the same more or less) and abutteth towards the north south and west on Wimbledon Common, and towards the east, partly on the workhouse, and ground thereto belonging, and on other part towards several houses, and containeth in length from north to south four hundred and forty-five feet (be the same more or less) and in depth from east to west in part two hundred and eighty feet (be the same more or less) and in other part, one hundred feet (be the same more or less) and that the said John Cooksey, Zachary Chambers, Benjamin Hayes, Henry Banks, Thomas Lewis, William Wilberforce, and William Southouse, their executors administrators and assigns for the use of the

said Charity School may hold and enjoy the said piece of ground [as above].

And the Homage afore

of In-said, upon their oaths present continue and confirm, the presentment of

General St. Hippolite, for inclosing part of Putney Lower Common, and also the presentment of Percival Lewis Esquire, for inclosing a pond on Putney Common, made by the homage of a General Court Baron, held for the said Manor the twenty-ninth day of June, one thousand seven hundred and forty-five, and that in as full force and effect, to all intents and purposes as if the same were here again particularly repeated.

William Travell Esq. Whereas at a Court held for this Manor the third day of May, one thousand seven hundred and fifty-six the homage presented William Travell Esquire for plowing up and inclosing a certain Lane or Common Highway called Dunditch Lane in Rowhampton parcel of the wast of this manor, and unless the said William Travell should restore and reinstate the said Lane before the then next General Court he was amerced in the sum of two hundred pounds. And whereas the said Lane was not restored or reinstated within the time before mentioned nor at any time since but still continues inclosed. Now at the General Court this day held for the said Manor the said William Travell appeared and proposed to the homage terms of accomodation for continuing the said Lane inclosed for his own use which terms were absolutely rejected and refused and thereupon the said William Travell undertook to restore and reinstate the said Lane or cause the same to be restored and reinstated with hedge, ditch, or otherwise in a workmanlike manner on or before the twenty-fifth day
