The Committee invite the Communications of the Friends of Peace, on all subjects connected with the Interests of the Society; and will be glad to be advised of any proceedings or publications (whether in favour of or opposed to its objects) which may be deemed of sufficient importance to be submitted

to them.

RULES

OF THE

SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION OF PERMANENT AND UNIVERSAL PEACE.

I. The Society shall be designated "The Society for the Promotion of Permanent and Universal Peace."

II. The object of the Society shall be to print and circulate Tracts, and to diffuse information tending to show, that War is inconsistent with the spirit of Christianity, and the true interests of mankind; and to point out the means best calculated to maintain permanent and universal Peace, upon the basis of Christian principles.

III. These objects shall not be limited by local attachments, nor circumscribed by geographical boundaries, but shall extend to the whole human race.

IV. The Society shall consist of persons of every denomination who are desirious of uniting in the promotion of Peace on earth, and good-will towards men.

V. Every Annual Subscriber of 10s. 6d. or upwards, and every Donor of £5 5s., shall be a Member of the Society.

VI. Members and Auxiliary Societies shall be entitled to receive, within the year, half the amount of their subscriptions, in Tracts, at the average cost price, and shall be allowed to purchase to any amount, in quantities of not less than one hundred, at the same rate. Donors of £5 5s. shall have the privilege of Annual Subscribers of 10s. 6d. ; and those of larger sums in the same proportion.

VII. The business of the Society shall be conducted by a Committee of not more than thirty-six Members, who shall meet once in every month, or oftener, if necessary. They shall have the power of filling vacancies, of appointing all the officers of the Society, except the Treasurer, and of calling special general meetings.

VIII. No person shall be eligible as a Member of the Committee, whose principles on the subject of War are not in strict accordance with those on which the Society is founded.

IX. A General Meeting shall be held annually, at such time and place as the Committee shall appoint, to receive their Report, to elect a Treasurer, and to attend to such other business as may come before it.

X. The Treasurer, and other gratuitous officers, shall be considered as members of the Committee.

RESOLUTIONS

PROPOSED FOR THE ADOPTION OF

AUXILIARY SOCIETIES.

I. That the plan and objects of "The Society for the Promotion of Permanent and Universal Peace," have the cordial approbation of this Meeting.

II. That a Society be now formed upon the same principles, to be called "The Auxiliary Society for the Promotion of Permanent and Universal Peace;" whose object shall be to co-operate and correspond with the Society established for that purpose in London.

III. That no publications shall be circulated by this Society but such as have received the sanction of the Society in London.

IV. That all subscriptions and donations, after deducting incidental expenses, shall be remitted to the Treasurer of this Society in London, to promote the great objects of the Institu

tion.

V. Every Annual Subscriber of and every Donor of
