A SHORT ACCOUNT OF

MR. THOMAS RANKIN, Minifter of the Gospel

WRITTEN BY HIMSELF.

EXTRACTS FROM HIS JOURNALS, &:

(Concluded from page 811.)

UNDAY, Sept. 12, Brother Pilmore and I divided the labours of the day. The rainy weather made our congregations thin, but thofe who did attend, found it good to be there. For fome days paft my foul has intenfely breathed after full conformity to the bleffed God. I can truly fay, As the hart panteth after the water brooks, fo my heart panteth after the living God. Thou that knoweft all things, knoweft that I defire to love thee with all my foul, mind, and ftrength. Haften, Lord, the moment, when there fhall be nothing in my foul, but thy pure love alone.

Sunday 26, I preached in the morning at feven, and in the evening at the ufual time. I found more liberty in the morning than I expected. After breakfaft I went to St. Paul's, (as I always have done,) to public worship. After fervice was over, I retired to my room, to wrestle with God in private prayer. My foul, for feveral hours, was indeed in the garden. I did indeed drink a little of that cup. Towards evening I felt a degree of liberty of foul, and the word was attended with fome power from on high. O how I long to fee the work of God break out on the right hand and on the left! "If I forget thee, O Jerufalem, let my right arm forget its cunning;" and let me be bereaved of my only joy!

Monday, Oct. 4, I began vifiting all the claffes, previous to my leaving New York for a feafon. Upon the whole, I had reason to be thankful, and to blefs God for what he had done for many of their fouls. Brother Boardman divided the labours of this week with VOL. XXXIV. DECEMBER, 1811. *5 T*
