BE IT REMEMBERED, that on the fourth day of August, in the forty-ninth year of the Independence of the
United States of America, A. D. 1824, Thomas I. ***** Rogers, of the said District, hath deposited in this office the Title of a book, the right whereof he claims as proprietor, ia the words following, to wit:
“A new American Biographical Dictionary; or, Remembrance of the departed Heroes, Sages, and Statesmen, of America. heroes and statesmen, the sufferings they endured, or the inesmable value of the blessings they obtained, no nation has prou : 1 examples to appeal to than the American people: no nation in ever called on by stronger obligations of gratitude, to hori" their characters and to consecrate their memories. “Fourth Edition, with important alterations and additions."
In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled, “ An act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts and books, to the authors and proprie uns of such copies during the times therein mentioned.” And also in the act entitled, “An act supplementary to an act, entitled “ in act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charis, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the times therein mentioned,” and extending the benefits thercof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints.
