TO BENJAMIN LINDSLEY, ESQ., MRS. REBECCA LINDS-
ley, Maj. ThaLES LINDSLEY, A. M., MR. ANSON
G. LINDSLEY, MYRON P. LINDSLEY, A. B., AND
REV. PHILO E. BROWN AND LADY.
Dear and Honored Friends,-For many years, as
you well know, it was the desire of your cher-
ished ADALINE, that her brother Thales, in case
he should survive her, should write a history of
her life. After her marriage, she transferred this
duty to me; and the day before her death, with
peculiar emphasis, renewed the request, observing
that it would be a solace and comfort to her
friends. Furnished with scanty materials, and
environed with serious embarrassments, I have
done the best I could; and now beg leave to in-
scribe to you the result of my labors, as the most
appropriate expression of my filial and fraternal
regard.
JOS. CROSS.
