"O father, do let James go," said

Lucy; "and please let me go too."

"If you will try to be very good and obey the farmer and his wife at all times I will be glad to send you," said their father.

The next morning James and Lucy were up with the sun and on their way to the country. It was a bright morning. The birds were singing as

the children said good-bye to father and mother and to little May, and hurried to the train.

Little May cried when they went, but James and Lucy said, "Don't cry, May, we will write you a long letter and tell you all about our trip." Then May's mother told her that next summer she too could take a trip to the country.

"Here we are, Lucy, at the farm," said James.

"Good morning, children," said the farmer, as he met them at the train. He and his wife were glad to see them, and gave them some fresh cool milk.

The farmer let them ride the old white horse and told them how to

find the hens' nests. They were glad to be out in the

country.

Before they went

to bed Lucy wrote a letter to her little sister May. In the morning the sun crept slyly in at the window and said, "Good morning, children, the birds are singing. It is time for you to be dressed and out with the birds."

The Farm, June 1st, 1899.

Dear Little Sister May,

We are now out here in the

The nest was in the apple tree that stood on the lawn. Far away

he heard Robin Red-breast singing sweetly. James watched the mother bird. She was so quiet that James was sure there were little baby robins in that nest.

Soon James saw Robin Red-breast fly to the nest. He brought a large white worm for the baby robins. Over the edge of the nest James could see
