SERMON V.
THE MOTIVE AND MEANS FOR GLORIFYING GOD.
1 COR. vi. 20.—For ye are bought with a price: therefore glo-
rify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 113
TITUS iii. 3-6.-For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish,
disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, liv-
ing in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour to-
ward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we
have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our
Saviour.

THE TRANSITION FROM NATURE TO GRACE.
TITUS iii. 4-7.-But after that the kindness and love of God
our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righte-
ousness which we have done, but according to his mercy, he
saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of
the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through
Jesus Christ our Saviour; that, being justified by his grace,
we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life, 196

RELIGIOUS JOY SURMOUNTING TEMPORAL ADVERSITY.
HABAK. iii. 17-19.-Although the fig-tree shall not blossom,
neither shall fruit be in the vine; the labour of the olive
shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall
be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the
stalls: yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God
of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will
make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk
upon mine high places.

CONSIDERATION.
ISAIAH lvii. 1, 2.-The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth
it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none consid-
ering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each
one walking in their uprightness.
