Infuriate, indiscriminate in ill,

Kindred kill kinsmen, kinsmen kindred kill.
Labor low levels longest loftiest lines;

Men march mid mounds, mid moles, mid mur-
derous mines;

Now noxious, noisy numbers nothing, naught
Of outward obstacles, opposing ought;

Poor patriots, partly purchased, partly pressed,
Quite quaking, quickly "Quarter! Quarter!

quest.

Reason returns, religious right redounds,
Suwarrow stops such sanguinary sounds.
Truce to thee, Turkey! Triumph to thy train,
Unwise, unjust, unmerciful Ukraine !
Vanish, vain victory! vanish, victory vain!
Why wish we warfare? Wherefore welcome

were

Xerxes, Ximenes, Xanthus, Xavier?

Yield, yield, ye youths! ye yeomen, yield your yell!

Zeus's, Zarpater's, Zoroaster's zeal,

Attracting all, arms against acts appeal !

ECHO AND THE LOVER.

Lover. Echo! mysterious nymph, declare
Of what you're made, and what you are.
Echo.
Air!
Lover. Mid airy cliffs and places high,
Sweet Echo! listening love, you lie.
Echo.
You lie !
Lover. Thou dost resuscitate dead sounds,
Hark! how my voice revives, resounds!
Echo.
Zounds!
Lover. I'll question thee before I go,
Come, answer me more apropos !

Echo.
Poh! poh!
Lover. Tell me, fair nymph, if e'er you saw
So sweet a girl as Phoebe Shaw.

Echo.

Pshaw! Lover. Say, what will turn that frisking coney Into the toils of matrimony?

Money!

Echo.
Lover. Has Phoebe not a heavenly brow?
Is not her bosom white as snow?
Echo.
Lover. Her eyes! was ever such a pair?
Are the stars brighter than they are?
Echo.
They are!
Lover. Echo, thou liest, but can't deceive me.
Echo.
Leave me!
Lover. But come, thou saucy, pert romancer,
Who is as fair as Phoebe? Answer!

Echo.

EVEN is come; and from the dark Park, hark,
Ass! No! The signal of the setting sun - one gun!
And six is sounding from the chime, prime time
To go and see the Drury-Lane Dane slain,
Or hear Othello's jealous doubt spout out,
Or Macbeth raving at that shade-made blade,
Denying to his frantic clutch much touch;
Or else to see Ducrow with wide stride ride
Four horses as no other man can span;
Or in the small Olympic pit sit split
Laughing at Liston, while you quiz his phiz.

Ann, sir.

Anon Night comes, and with her wings brings

things

Such as, with his poetic tongue, Young sung;
The gas upblazes with its bright white light,
And paralytic watchmen prowl, howl, growl
About the streets, and take up Pall-Mall Sal,
Who, hasting to her nightly jobs, robs fobs.

Now thieves to enter for your cash, smash, crash,
Past drowsy Charley, in a deep sleep, creep,
But, frightened by Policeman B. 3, flee,
And while they're going, whisper low, "No go!"

Now puss, when folks are in their beds, treads leads,

And sleepers, waking, grumble, "Drat that cat!" Who in the gutter caterwauls, squalls, mauls Some feline foe, and screams in shrill ill-will.

Now Bulls of Bashan, of a prize size, rise
In childish dreams, and with a roar gore poor
Georgy, or Charley, or Billy, willy-nilly;
But Nursemaid in a nightmare rest, chest-pressed,
Dreameth of one of her old flames, James Games,
And that she hears what faith is man's!
Ann's banns

And his, from Reverend Mr. Rice, twice, thrice;
White ribbons flourish, and a stout shout out,
That upward goes, shows Rose knows those bows'
woes!

SNEEZING.

WHAT a moment, what a doubt!
All my nose is inside out,
All my thrilling, tickling caustic,

for why should Pyramid rhinocerostic,

Wants to sneeze and cannot do it! How it yearns me, thrills me, stings me,

While the nectar still reddens our cups as they How with rapturous torment wrings me!

A chieftain, to the Highlands bound......

Along the frozen lake she comes....

670

359 Although I enter not......

1:2

A child sleeps under a rose-bush fair

A cloud lay cradled near the setting sun.
A country life is sweet!.

Across the narrow beach we flit....

A dew-drop came, with a spark of flame
A diagnosis of our history proves..
Adieu, adieu, my native shore...
A district school not far away.
Ae fond kiss and then we sever....
A fair little girl sat under a tree...
A famous hen 's my story's theme..
Afar in the desert I love to ride.....
A fellow in a market-town....

741

692

A man there came, whence none could tell
Amazing, beauteous change!....

795

377

551

A mighty fortress is our God..

371

482 A mighty hand, from an exhaustless urn..
865 A milkmaid, who poised a full pail

750

957

...1007
A moment then Lord Marmion stayed..
238 Among the beautiful pictures.
99 Among their graven shapes....
233 Among thy fancies tell me this...

319 An Austrian army awfully arrayed...

103 A Monk, when his rites sacerdotal were o'er........
An ancient story I'll tell you,.....

862

943

1013

954 And are ye sure the news is true?...

A flock of merry singing-birds.

246

475

A flock of sheep that leisurely pass by..
A footstep struck her ear....
Again the violet of our early days..

And hast thou sought thy heavenly home..

279

763

And is the swallow gone?....

478

648

And is there care in heaven?

373

421

A gentle knight was pricking on the plaine..

And now behold your tender nurse, the air.....

461

A girl who has so many willful ways........
A good wife rose from her bed one morn
A happy bit hame this auld world would be.
Ah Ben! say how or when.....

827 And now, unveiled, the toilet stands displayed..... 13

130

And said I that my limbs were old......

202

220

And there two runners did the sign abide..

164

117

And thou hast walked about...

717

907

Ah! County Guy, the hour is nigh

Ah, Chloris, could I now but sit....

Ah, how sweet it is to love...

And wilt thou leave me thus ?......
194 And ye sall walk in silk attire.
147 An exquisite incompleteness...

711

145

Ah little they know of true happiness..

556

Ah my heart is weary waiting

419

Ah, my sweet sweeting..

123

Ah, sweet Kitty Neil!..

174

Ah, then, how sweetly closed those crowded days.. 87
Ah, the world hath many a Horner...
Ah! what is love? It is a pretty thing..
Ah! whence yon glare.

An exquisite invention this...
A nightingale, that all day long...
Announced by all the trumpets of the sky.
An old farm-house with meadows wide..
A poet loved a star....

499

Ah, yes,-the fight? Well, messmates, well.
A jolly fat friar loved liquor good store.....
Alas, Fra Giacomo

Art thou weary, art thou languid......

364

612

A ruddy drop of manly blood....

Alas, how light a cause may move

As beautiful Kitty one morning was tripping...
885 As by the shore, at break of day.

. Alas! they had been friends in youth..

A sentinel angel sitting high in glory.

270

116 A simple child...

Alas! what pity 't is that regularity.

A life on the ocean wave..

A lighter scarf of richer fold..

As it fell upon a day......................

A light is out in Italy.....

A little more toward the light..

As Memnon's marble harp renowned of old.....
934 A soldier of the Legion lay dying in Algiers........

819

521

All grim and soiled and brown with tan....

All day long the storm of battle through the start-
led valley swept...

755 As once a Grecian maiden wove.....

103

523

A song for the plant of my own native West.
A song to the oak, the brave old oak.

458

454

600

All hail thou noble land.

As, rising on its purple wing...

267

588

All hail to the ruins, the rocks, and the shores!..... 608

As ships becalmed at eve, that lay

233

All in our marriage garden....

As slow our ship her foamy track..

237

83

All in the Downs the fleet was moored..

235

"All quiet along the Potomac".

A stranger came one night to Yussouf's tent
A swallow in the spring..

768

477

524

All the world's a stage....

A sweet disorder in the dress

713

711 As when, on Carmel's sterile steep..
