vided always, that the faid additional Duties fhall not be charged or Provifo for payable on any Linen which, having been imported into Great Bri- Linens fecured tain on or before the faid Thirtieth Day of June, fhall have been or may be fecured in Warehouses under the Authority of any Act of Parliament without Payment of Duty, notwithstanding fuch Linen may not be fo taken out of any fuch Warehouse, either to be ufed or confumed in Great Britain, or for the Purpose of being exported, until after the faid Thirtieth Day of June.

11. And be it further enacted, That fuch of the faid Duties as Duties under fhall arife in that Part of Great Britain called England, fhall be Commiffioners under the Management of the Commiffioners of the Cuftoms in England for the time being; and fuch thereof as fhall arife in that Part of Great Britain called Scotland fhall be under the Management of the Commiffioners of the Cuftoms in Scotland for the time being. III. And be it further enacted, That the additional Duty of How levied. Customs hereby impofed fhall be managed, afcertained, raifed, levied, collected, paid and recovered in fuch and the like manner as any Du ties of Cultoms of the like Nature are managed, afcertained, raised, levied, collected, paid and recovered, and under and subject to the feveral Powers, Conditions, Rules, Regulations, Reftrictions, Penalties and Forfeitures now in force in relation to or made for fecuring the Revenue of Cuftoms in Great Britain; and all Powers, Penalties, Fines and Forfeitures for any Offence whatever committed against or in breach of any Act or Acts of Parliament in force on and immediately before the paffing of this Act, made for fecuring the Revenue of Cuftoms, or for the Regulation or Improvement thereof, and the several Clauses, Powers and Directions therein contained, fhall be in full Force and Effect as to the faid Duties, as fully and effectually, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they were at large repeated and re-enacted in this A&t.

An Act for taking away the public Ufe of certain Ships Rooms in the Town of Saint John, in the Ifland of Newfoundland; and for instituting Surrogate Courts on the Coast of Labrador, and in certain Islands adjacent thereto. [31ft May 1811.]

WHEREAS certain Spaces of Ground in the Town of Saint John's, in the Island of Newfoundland, called Ships Rooms, are liable, according to the ancient Cuftom there used, and conformably with the Provifions of an A&t paffed in the Tenth and ⚫ Eleventh Years of His Majefty King William the Third, intituled, An Act to encourage the Trade to Newfoundland, to be claimed by the Masters of fishing Ships, for the Ufe of their Ships and Boats during the current fishing Seafon, which faid Spaces of Ground have not of late been employed for the Purposes of the Fishery: And whereas it would be more beneficial to the general Interests of the Trade and Fishery, if the faid Spaces of Ground were wholly exempted from fuch Claim, and were let out for building • Dwelling Houfes and Store Houfes, and for other Ufes necessary to the Trade and Fishery: And whereas it has been proved, upon the Survey of Perfons refident in the Town of Saint John's, and well skilled in the Affairs of the Fishery, that there is Land at the Western Extremity of the Harbour better fuited for drying, curing and husbanding of Fifh than any of the Ships Rooms above mentioned; Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That, from and after the paffing hereinmentioned of this Act, the following Ships Rooms, fituated in the Town of Saint John's; that is to fay, the Ships Room, No. I. Rotten Row, or Pye Corner Ships Room, No. II.; Darkus's Ships Room, No. II.; Lady's Ships Room, No. II.; Gallows Hill Ships Room, No III.; Burfheart Hill Ships Room, No. III.; Churchill Ships Room, No. IV.; Hudson's Ships Room, No. V.; Admiral's Ships Room, No. VI.; as the fame are laid down, distinguished and named in a Plan of the Town and Harbour of Saint John's in Newfoundland, dated October One thousand eight hundred and four, and depofited in the Government House there, fhall no longer be deemed and taken to be Ships Rooms and occupied during the fishing Seafon as fuch, but it fhall be lawful for the fame to be granted, let and poffeffed as private Property, in like manner as any other Portions of Land in Newfoundland may be; any thing in the said A&t or the faid ancient Cuftom to the contrary notwithstanding.

And whereas it is expedient to provide for the better Adminiftration of Juftice in fuch Parts of the Coaft of Labrador < from the River St. John to Hudfon's Streights, and in the Island of Anticofti, and in all other smaller Islands as are re-annexed to the Government of Newfoundland by an Act paffed in the Forty ninth Year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ad for establishing Courts of Judicature in the land of Newfoundland and the Iflands adjacent; and for re-annexing Part of the Coast of Labrador and the Iflands lying on the faid Coaft to the Government of Newfoundland; Be it therefore further enacted, That it shall and may be

prefent Majefty, intituled, An Act to make further Provifion for the effectual Performance of Quarantine, certain Duties are required to be performed by the Superintendant of Quarantine, or his Deputy, but no Provision is made for the Execution of the fame in the Event of the Absence of thefe Officers;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Autho

HEREAS according to an Act paffed in the Twelfth Year 12 Car. 2. c. 18. of the Reign of His Majefty King Charles the Second, intituled, An Ad for the encouraging and increafing of Shipping and

• Navigation, and other Statutes, no Goods or Commodities whatever, of the Growth, Production or Manufacture of America, can be imported into this Kingdom or the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, in any other than British-built Ships, owned by His Majefty's Subjects, navigated with a Mafter and Three Fourths of the Mariners British Subjects, and registered according to Law, on For feiture of all fuch Goods or Commodities, and of the Ship or Veffel in which they are imported: And whereas the following Goods and Commodities; that is to fay, Mafts, Timber, Boards, Salt, Pitch, Tar, Rofin, Hemp, Flax, Raifins, Figs, Prunes, Olive Oil, Corn or Grain, Sugar, Pot Ashes, Wine, Vinegar, Aqua vita or Brandy, being the Growth, Production or Manufacture of Europe, are, by the faid recited A&t of the Twelfth Year of the Reign of His faid late Majefty King Charles the Second, and by: fubfequent Acts, required to be imported into Great Britain inShips or Veffels, which, before the First Day of May One thou

or by any Ship or Veffel belonging to any of the Inhabitants of any of the Territories or Dominions aforefaid, and registered according to Law, having Commiffions or Letters of Marque and Reprifal from the Portugueze Government, and condemned as lawful Prize in any Court of Admiralty of the faid Government, fuch Ship or Veffel fo importing being owned by Subjects of the faid Government, and navigated with a Mafter and Three Fourths of the Mariners at the leaft, Subjects of the faid Government, on Forfeiture of the faid Goods, Wares and Merchandize, and alfo of the Ship or Veffel in which the fame may be imported; fhall be and the fame are hereby repealed.

II. And be it further enacted, That, from and after the paffing of Goods of the this Act, any Goods, Wares and Merchandize, being of the Growth, Production of Produce or Manufacture of any of the Territories or Dominions of the Crown of Portugal, which are not prohibited by Law to be imported into this Kingdom, or the Iflands of Jerfey and Guernsey, from other foreign Countries, fhall and may be imported into this Kingdom, and the Iflands of Jerfey and Guernsey direct from any fuch Territories or Dominions, in any Ship or Veffel built in any of the faid Territories or Dominions of the Crown of Portugal, or taken by any Ship or Veffel of War belonging to the Portugueze Government, or by any Ship or Veffel belonging to any of the Subjects of the Territories or Dominions aforefaid, or having Commiffions or Letters of Marque and Reprifal from the faid Government, and condemned as lawful Prize in any Court of Admiralty of the faid Government, and owned by the Subjects of fuch Government or any of them, and whereof the Mafter and Three Fourths of the Mariners at least are Subjects of fuch Government, and fuch Goods, Wares and Merchandize shall and may be entered and landed upon Payment of the Duties, and fubject to the Conditions and Regulations hereinafter mentioned; any Law, Custom or Usage to the contrary in any wife notwithstanding.

And be it further enacted, That all fuch Goods, Wares and Such Goods may Merchandizes fo imported directly into this Kingdom from any of be landed on the faid Territories or Dominions of the Crown of Portugal in fuch Payment of cer Portugueze Ships or Veffels, fo owned and navigated as are hereinbefore particularly mentioned and defcribed, shall and may be entered and landed on Payment of fuch Duties of Cuftoms and Excife, and no higher, as are payable on Goods, Wares and Merchandize of the like Denomination or Defcription upon their Importation into this Kingdom from any other foreign Country in British-built Ships or Veffels, owned, navigated and registered according to Law; and in Cafes where different Duties are impofed upon any Goods, Wares or Merchandize of the like Denomination or Defcription fo imported from different foreign Countries, then upon Payment of the lowest Duties which by Law are required to be paid on the Importation in Britifb-built Ships or Veffels of any fuch Goods, Wares or Merchandize from any foreign Country.
