do we put our trust: restore tranquillity and peace to contending nations; unite the hearts of mankind in the bonds of humanity and love; and may the happy time come, when the calamities of war shall cease for ever ; and peace and righteousness universally prevail. A Collect to be used in a Time of
remarkable Scarcity. GOD, our heavenly Father, by
whose wise and gracious appointment it is, that the rain doth fall; the earth is fruitful; the beasts increase; and fishes do multiply ; behold, we befeech thee, the present afflictions of thy people; alleviate the distresses of the miserable; and may the cries of the poor come unto thee: increase the fruits of the earth by thy heavenly benediction; may our scarcity be turned into plenty; and grant that we may improve
the bounties of thy providence, to thy praise, in relieving the distresses of others; and by thankfully acknowledging thee, the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.
A Collect adapted to a Time of general
Sickness. ALMIGHTY, and most wise GOD, A whose never - failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and in earth; we humbly direct our addresses unto thee, in this time of our calamity, beseeching thee in behalf of our fellow creatures and friends, who are suffering under the grievous fickness, with which thou art pleased to visit us: may the everlasting arms of thy mercy support them, and the consideration of thy fatherly goodness strengthen and comfort their fouls, in this time of their distress: fanctify this general affliction to the reformation of our manners, and the improvement of our virtue; and cause us to rejoice in the humble hope,
that every thing shall work together for good. In the midft of life we are in death : of whom may we seek for fuccour, but of thee, O GOD: restrain the progress of the disorder, if it be agreeable to thy blessed will. May those lives that are yet spared be devoted to thy service; and may we, and all thy servants, be prepared for every event of thy Providence; that whether we live, we may live unto the LORD; or whether we die, we may die unto the LORD; and whether living or dying, may have an interest in thy mercies unto eternal life. Amen.
A Prayer for Women drawing near
to the Time of Child-bearing. n GOD, the Author of life, the
Fountain of happiness, and the gracious Preserver of those who do put their trust in thee, mercifully regard thy servants, who are drawing near to the time of child-bearing, and desire to recommend themselves to thy almighty
protection: fave and deliver them in the hour of pain by thy gracious aid; may they be joyful mothers of living and perfect children; and in due time restore them to health and strength; that they may enter into thy gates with thanksgiving, and into thy courts with praise, be thankful unto thee, and bless thy Name. Amen.
A Prayer to be read, when particularly
desired, for Persons upon Journies, or
Voyages. ALMIGHTY GOD, the Preserver of A all thy creatures, and the Confidence of the ends of the earth, and of them who are afar off upon the feas; we humbly recommend to thy continual protection, such as are absent from their friends, upon journies in our own, or in foreign nations: may thy gracious providence defend them at all times, and in all places: preserve them from the peculiar dangers to which they may be exposed; succeed them in
all their lawful and honourable designs; and return them to their habitations in innocence and safety, that they may have fresh occasions to celebrate the praises of thy goodness with thankful hearts.----We, in a particular manner, beseech thee in behalf of thy fervants, who are going down to the sea in ships, or are now. travelling upon the great ocean; 1 eternal LORDGOD, who commandeft the winds, and ruleft the raging of the waters, receive them under thine almighty and most gracious protection; preserve them from the dangers of the fea, * from the violence of the Enemy, and the attempts of wicked and unreafonable men; return them to their native country in safety, to enjoy the fruits of their industry and labour; the benefits of fociety; and the pleasures of domestic life ; with a thankful remembrance of thy mercies, who art the only Giver of all good.
