OCCASIONAL PRAYERS.

O

A Collect adapted to the Spring Season.

LORD, the Creator, and Pre

server of all things, who with unerring wisdom maintainest the beauty and order of thy works; we look up with joy and confidence unto thy gracious power, which causes the returning seasons to know their place: thou hast fent forth thy spirit; thou hast renewed [o]

the

the face of the earth: bless, we beseech thee, the springing of the year; and enrich the earth with the rain of heaven: may grass grow for the cattle, and herbs and fruits for the service of man; may our pastures be cloathed with flocks; our vallies covered with corn; and the year crowned with thy goodness: and may we so improve the various blessings of thy providence in this world, as to be prepared for the unchangeable felicities of thine everlasting kingdom. Amen.

A Collect adapted to the Season of Harvest.

A

LMIGHTY GOD, the Fountain of

all goodness, in whose power alone it is to give fruitful seasons, and to fill our hearts with food and gladness; we lift up our eyes unto thee, from whom our hope cometh, beseeching thee to preserve unto us the appointed weeks of harvest, and to give us seasonable weather for ripening, and gathering in the fruits of the earth, that in due time

we may enjoy them. * May the im-
moderate rains be abated; and thy mercy
again fine upon us. Suffer not the
hopes of the husbandman to fail; may
the poor be satisfied with bread; con-
tinue to bless us with the bounties of
thy providence; and may we evermore
live to thy praise, in a wise, grateful,
and temperate enjoyment of thy mer-
cies, who art the only Giver of all good.
Amen.

A Collect to be used on Occasion of any

violent Storm, or Earthquake.

REAT and glorious LORD GOD,
G
almighty in thy power,

and un-
searchable in all thy ways, at whose
rebuke the earth trembles, and the foun-
dations of the hills do shake; who thun-
derest with thy voice, and sendest forth
thy lightnings to the ends of the hea-
vens; who commandest the winds, and
the sea, and they obey; we, the chil-
dren of men, prostrate ourselves before

thy throne, adoring the greatness of thy majesty, and imploring thy favour and mercy to us.

Awaken our attention duly to consider the voice of thy providence; and possess our hearts with a holy reverence of thy power, and a humble confidence in thy goodness. It is of thy goodness that we have not been consumed : in the midst of the amazing instances of thy power, thou rememberest mercy; shewing forth the care of thy providence in our preservation. May the remembrance of these things produce in us thankfulness of heart, and such seriousness of spirit, that no calamity may ever surprise us, nor death it self find us unprepared; and this we beg, for thy goodness fake, declared unto mankind by JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

A Collect to be read in Time of War.

ALMIGHTY GOD, King of all

kings, and Governor of all things, to whom it justly belongeth to punish sinful nations, and to be merciful to those, who repent; we humbly beseech thee, in this time of our danger, to be the Defender of our country: give us not up into the hands of our enemies; save us from the edge of the sword; and preserve our land from the desolations of war; continue us in the undisturbed profession of thy true religion ; in the enjoyment of our public liberties; and may we yet live secure and happy, under that wise and equal government, which thou hast fet over us. We do with all humility acknowledge ourselves unworthy of these peculiar blessings : have mercy upon us; O GOD, have mercy upon thy people: send forth a spirit of reformation amongst us; avert the evils we have deserved ; continue thy favour and protection to us; save and deliver us, o qur GOD, for in thee
