tinctures so much of current economic literature by introducing the spiritual element-the mental man-into practical discussions and movements. In the present volume he shows how this can be done by recognition of the oneness of God and humanity—the solidarity of the race and unity of the social organism. The author is always an optimist, and his incisive, polished diction is never employed in the interest of retrogression or decadence.

THE BUILDER AND THE PLAN. By Ursula N. Gestefeld. 282 pp. Cloth, $2.00. The Gestefeld Publishing Company, Pelham, N. Y. This bulky volume will be heartily welcomed by "reformed" Christian Scientists, who repudiate the authority and leadership of Mrs. Eddy, and by those elements of the New Thought fraternity who have no use for the metaphysics of the Orient. It is presented as a text-book of the Science of Being, in which the personal equation cuts no figure. The author is not a believer in reincarnation, though she accepts the principle of evolution of which reembodiment is naturally and logically the process. Of the very few teachers of advanced spiritual thought who take the same attitude, Mrs. Gestefeld has been the most successful in formulating a system that dispenses with the necessity of rebirth. In this, her latest and best work, the principles of Mental Science are reduced to a coherent system having a mathematical basis. It is not a mere treatise for cursory perusal, but a comprehensive presentation, demanding serious study, of the laws that underlie the science of religion. The power of self-healing should easily be derived from a careful reading of this book, which is especially commended to the attention of orthodox Christians and Bible students.
