And sent us blessings sweeter,
Through Christ His only Son;
Who, when He saw us dying
In sin and sorrow's night,
On wings of mercy flying,

Came down with life and light.

4 He gives His word to teach us,
Our danger and our wants,
And kindly doth beseech us
To take the life He grants.
His Holy Spirit frees us
From Satan's deadly powers;
Leads us by faith to Jesus,
And makes His glory ours.

Praise.

PRAISE to the mighty God!
He form'd the earth and air,
The heav'ns in beauty rob'd,
And living creatures fair.
At evening's parting ray,
At midnight's gloomy hour,
And at the dawning day,
We praise Thee, God of power!

Praise, praise, praise!

2 Praise to the mighty God! Suns, stars, obey the call;

In goodness He design'd,

"In wisdom made them all."

P.M.

On earth's all-lovely scenes,-
On sea, on sky, and cloud,
We power and wisdom read,
And praise Thee, all-wise God!

Praise, praise, praise!

3 Praise to the mighty God!
We in His sight rejoice;
We see, we feel Him nigh,
And hear His gracious voice.
The showers of blessing fall:
O sound His praise abroad!
We'll tell Thy mercies all,-
We'll praise Thee, gracious God!

Praise, praise, praise !

4 Praise to the mighty God!

Proclaim His wondrous grace;

He gave His only son,

To save our sinful race.

He laid His glory by;
He left His throne above;
He died that we might live:

We praise Thee, God of love!

Praise, praise, praise !

[blocks in formation]

PRAISE the Lord, who reigns above,

And keeps His courts below;

Praise the holy God of love,
And all His goodness show;

Praise Him for His noble deeds,
Praise Him for His matchless power;
Him, from whom all good proceeds,
Let heaven and earth adore.

2 Publish, spread to all around,
The great Immanuel's name;
Let the trumpet's thrilling sound,
Him Lord of Hosts proclaim:
Praise Him, every tuneful string,
All the reach of heavenly art;
All the powers of music bring,-
The music of the heart.

Him, in whom they move and live,
Let every creature sing;
Glory to their Maker give,

And homage to their King:
Hallowed be His name beneath,
As in heaven, on earth adored;
Praise the Lord in every breath,--
Let all things praise the Lord.

Christ's Invitation.

L.M.

SWEET was the gospel's joyful sound,
Rich were the tones of love and grace,
That fell on those who gathered round
To listen to the "Prince of Peace."

From heaven He came, of heaven He spoke,
To heaven He led His followers' way;
Dark clouds of gloomy night He broke
Unveiling an immortal day.

3

"Come, wand'rers, to my Father's home,
Come, all ye weary ones, and rest!"
Yes! gracious Teacher, we will come,
Obey Thee, love Thee, and be blest.

18.

The Prince of Peace.

RECEIVE Messiah gladly,

And lift the downcast eyes:
Ye people, speak not sadly:
He makes the fallen rise.
In all your habitations,
Complaint and crying, cease;
The long Desire of Nations
Brings everlasting peace.

2 He comes, with succour speedy,
To those who suffer wrong,
To help the poor and needy,
And bid the weak be strong:
To give them songs for sighing,
Their darkness turn to light,
Whose souls, in bondage lying,
Were precious in His sight.
3 By such shall He be feared,
While sun and moon endure,
Beloved, obeyed, revered;

For He shall judge the poor,
Through changing generations,
With justice, mercy, truth,
While stars maintain their stations,
Or moons renew their youth.

Hosannas.

CHILDREN once were heard to sing,
When so many silent were;

Glad they welcom'd Israel's King,
Loud hosannas fill'd the air.

2 Count us not, O Lord, too bold,
If we try our song to raise;
Children we, like those of old,

Taught like them to lisp Thy praise.

3 Make us wise Thy name to know,
Let us feel Thy power and love;
Having served Thee here below,
Rise to dwell with Thee above.

4 There to sing hosannas loud,
There a Saviour's praise to sing,
Mix with yonder joyful crowd,
And for ever praise our King.

ONE

The Love of Jesus.

there is above all others,
Well deserves the name of friend;

His is love beyond a brother's,
Costly, free, and knows no end.
They who once His kindness prove,
Find it everlasting love.
