Wonders of grace to God belong;
Repeat His mercies in your song.

6 Through this vain world he guides our feet,
And leads us to His heavenly seat:

His mercies ever shall endure,

When this vain world shall be no more.

164.

Psalm cxlviii.

8.7.

1 PRAISE the Lord! ye heavens, adore Him;
Praise Him, angels, in the height;
Sun and moon, rejoice before Him;
Praise Him, all ye stars of light.

2 Praise the Lord, for He hath spoken;
Worlds His mighty voice obey'd;
Laws which never shall be broken
For their guidance He hath made.
3 Praise the Lord, for He is glorious;
Never shall His promise fail;
God hath made His saints victorious,
Sin and death shall not prevail.

4 Praise the God of our salvation,
Hosts on high His power proclaim;
Heaven and earth, and all creation,
Laud and magnify His name!

[blocks in formation]

COME, let us praise our Master's hand,
Who gives us daily bread;

Thy house, my Lord, is full of guests,
Thy table richly spread.

Earth is Thy table, where Thy guests
Do daily sit and feed;

Thy hand carves every one his part,
And suffers none to need.

2 Naked came I into the world,
And nothing with me brought;
And nothing have I here deserved,
Yet have I lackèd nought.
I do not bless my labouring hand,
My labouring head, or chance;
Thy providence, most gracious God,
Is mine inheritance.

3 Thy bounty gives me bread with peace,
A table free from strife;
Thy blessing is the staff of bread,
Which is the staff of life.
The people sat in companies,
My Saviour fed them all :"
So all the families of the earth
Have tables in God's hall.

4 The children round the table, too,
Are nourished by Thy care;
Mercies we eat, mercies we drink,
Mercies we daily wear.

Shall I repine against my God,

That kept me all my days?

Then let my tongue forget to taste,
When it forgets to praise.

166.

"Worthy the Lamb."

1 GLORY to God on high!
Let earth and skies reply,
Praise ye His name!
His love and grace adore,
Who all our sorrows bore,
Sing aloud evermore,
Worthy the Lamb!

2 Join, all ye ransomed race,
Our holy Lord to bless;
Praise ye His name!

In Him we will rejoice,
And make a cheerful noise,
Shouting with heart and voice,
Worthy the Lamb!

3 What tho' we change our place,
Yet we shall never cease
Praising His name.

To Him our songs we bring,
Hail Him our gracious King,
And without ceasing sing,
Worthy the Lamb!

The Angels' Song.

HARK! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconcil'd.

P.M.

78.

2 Joyful all ye nations rise,

Join the triumph of the skies :

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of righteousness!

3 Mild He lays His glories by ;
Born, that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
4 Sing we then, with angels sing:
Glory to the new-born king!
Glory in the highest heaven,
Peace on earth, and man forgiven."

168. Coming of the Messiah.

HA

C.M.

ARK the glad sound! the Saviour comes,
The Saviour promised long!

Let every heart prepare a throne,
And every voice a song.

2 On Him the Spirit, largely poured,
Exerts its sacred fire;

Wisdom, and might, and zeal, and love,
His holy breast inspire.

3 He comes the prisoners to release,
In Satan's bondage held;

The gates of brass before Him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

4 He comes from thickest films of vice
To clear the inward sight;

And on the eye-balls of the blind,
Το celestial light.

pour

5 He comes the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding soul to cure;
And with the treasures of His grace,
T'enrich the humble poor.

6 Our glad Hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim;
And heaven's eternal arches ring
With Thy most honoured name.

169.

The Doctrine of Christ.

1 BEHOLD, the Prince of Peace,

The chosen of the Lord,
God's well-beloved Son fulfils
The sure prophetic word.

2 No royal pomp adorns

This King of righteousness;
Meekness and patience, truth and love,
Compose His princely dress.

3 The Spirit of the Lord,

In rich abundance shed,
On this great prophet gently lights,
And rests upon His head.

4 Jesus, the light of men!

0

His doctrine life imparts:

may we feel its quickening power,
To warm and glad our hearts.

5 Cheer'd by its beams, our souls

Shall run the heavenly way:

S.M.

The path which Christ hath mark'd and trod
Must lead to endless day.
