"All thoughts, all passions, all delights,

Whatever stirs this mortal frame,

Are all but ministers of Love,
And feed his sacred flame."

COLERIDGE'S "Genevieve."

INTRODUCTION.

T is intended that persons of either sex, who

wish to address those they love in suitable terms, or to indulge in a little harmless satire without descending to vulgarity, should find suggestive matter in the pages of " Love LYRICS," sublime and ridiculous.

As such compositions will frequently assume the shape of Valentines, many of the Lyrics have been arranged in this form. A slight alteration will make them general, or convert the general ones into special Valentines.

A large number are intended for Birthday Greetings, and a still larger for use among children ; but nearly all will suit children of a larger growth as well.
