The prophet Micah has left his testemony of this peace which fall be peculiar to the kingdom of Christ on earth. Micah iv. 1, 2, 3, 4, “ But in the last days it shall come to pafs that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and people shall flow unto it: And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off ; and they shall beat their fwords into ploushares, and their spears into pruning hooks, nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall set every man under his vine, and under his figtree ; and none shall make them afraid; for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.”.

O what a glorious day will that be when man shall no longer consider man his foe, when all nations shall consider each other brethren, under the first born of many brethren! When harmony, love and peace shall reignthroughout this habitable globe, and, “ All nations call Jefus blessed.

5. Another thing peculiar to the thousand years of Christ's reign on the earth will be the harmony and peace among the the beasts. Some may think this hardly worth noticing; but those who know what terrible havoc the beasts have made among mankind, will consider it a great thing to have the evil beasts destroyed out of the land, or be tame that there will be no more to fear from the lion than from the lamb. The scriptures furnish us with a melancholy history of whát men, women and children have suffer, ed by lions, bears, wolves and other ravenous beasts.

The Lord has promised in the new covenant, that the people shall be delivered from evil beasts, so that they may at that time fleep in the woods without fear. Ezes kiel xxxiv. 25, “ And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and I will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and fleep in the woods." Hofea speaks of the same

thing, in the covenant with the Jews. Hosea ii. 18, 6 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the bearts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break the bow, and the sword, and the battle, out of the earth, and I will make them to lie down fafely.” • Hosca has fpoken more upon this subject; he mentions the beasts, fowls, and creeping things of the earth, that men will be delivered from all of them at that time, and at the same time he fays that the bow, the sword, aid battle will be no more in the earth. • Isaiah tells us how the beasts will be, when all riations know the LORD. Isaiah xi. 6, 7, 8, 9, “ The wolf also

ihall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down · with the kid ; and the calf, and the young lion, and the

fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their youngones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and the fucking child skall play on the hole of the afp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice's den; they shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth fhall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

Many people undertake to fpiritualize this prophecy; but what reference has this to the conversion of sinners to God? None at all. - Mention is made here of the harmony which shall subfilt between a wolf, a lamb, a leopard, a kid, a calf, a lion, a fatling, a little child, a cow, a bear, their young ones, a lion, an ox, a sucking child, an asp, a weaned child and a cockatrice. All these are to be in harmony, , at the time when the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD : this time has never been ; it is at hand. In chapter 1xv. 25, the same thing is mentioned ; “ The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock, and dust shall be the serpent's meat,

Many think this harmony between man and beasts, can never take place ; but James says, chapter ii. 7, " For every kind of beast, and of birds, and of serpents, and of

things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of man. kind.” Adam had dominion over the fowls, fishes, and beasts; Genesis i. 28, “.And have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowls of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” It is not like! ly that Adam had any fear of the beasts, while he had the dominion over them. I have not a doubt but that the second Adam will have as great a command over the beasts as the first had. The lions were entirely peaceable with Daniel in the den, and as God has said that in the days of the reign of the item of Jesse on the earth, there! fall be no danger from the beasts, I fully believe it. 03 the glory of that day! 6. Another thing peculiar to the thousand years reign of Christ, as ta outward blessings, will be the remarkable fruitful.? ness of the earth to what it is now. ..

There is no doubt in my mind, but the curse broughes on the ground for the sake of the first Adam, (who lost? his dominion, by tranfgression,) will be removed for the fake of the second Adam, the Lord from heaven, when he comes to take the kingdom, and send showers of bles) sings on the earth. It is evident that the barrenness of many places, is on account of the wickedness of the in: habitants. Moses told the Jews that if they transgressed, their land would be like Sodom and Gomorrah. com

Deut. xxix. 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, “ So the gen.: eratiou to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the fickness which the LORD hath laid upon it, and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth! therein,like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Ad.. mah and Zeboim, which the Lord overthrew in his an ni ger, and in his wrath ; even all nations shall say, where ! fore hath the Lord done this unto this land ? What mean.. eth the heat of this great anger? Then men shall say, because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD GOBY

of their fathers, which he made with them, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt.” .

This fame thing is mentinned as the cause of barren land; Psalm cvii. 33, 34, “ He turneth rivers into wild. erness, and the water springs into dry ground; a fruita ful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.” We all know that the ground was curs. ed for man's sake, and that on this account it now bares thorns and briars, and that many times when it is tilled it does not bring forth ; but in the day when Jesus shall reign on the earth, every part will be fruitful, yielding abundance for man and beast.

Several of the prophets have spoken of this ; I shall menţion only a few of the many testimonies of this glorious state of the earth for one thousand years. Isaiah fays, chap. XXX. 1, 2, 7, “ The wilderness and the foli. tary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose, it shall blossom abundantly. And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of dragons where each lay; shall be grass with reads and rushes." How many have undertaken to fpiritualize this text ; that is, make it mean something different from what it says; but it will at that time have a litteral ac. complishment. In Isaiah xliii. 19, 20, the same thing is mentioned again; “ Behold I will do a new thing ; now it fhall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert ; the beasts of the field shall honor me ; the dragons and the owls; because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen." The design of all this is mentioned to give drink to my cho. sen, to the saints. In another place Ifaiah says there shall be rivers opened in high places, and that the cedar, myrtle, oil tree, fir, pine, and box tree, shall grow in places which will remarkably shew the hand of Israel's God.

Ifaiah xli. 18, 19, 20, “ I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of valleys, and I will make the wilderness a pool of water; and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the ce dar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle tree, and the oil tree, I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together. That they may see, and know, and congder, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this; and the holy one of Israel hath created it." This never was done, it remains yet to be performed by the Lord of hosts.

In another place, Ifaiah lv. 13, it is said, " Instead of the thorn, shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the briar, shall come up the myrile tree, and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Such a great change as this will stand a constant sign of the faithfulness of God to the Jews and the world at large.

In the time of the reign of Christ on the earth, the now barren land of Canaan will be so fruitful, that people will say that it is like the ancient fruitful garden of Eden, so that there will be no famine in the land. Ezekiel xxxvi. 29, 30, 34, 35, 36, “ I will also save you from all your uncleannesses; and I will call for the corn, and xvill increase it, and lay no famine upou you. And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. And the desolate land shall be till. ed, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that palled by; and they fall fay; this land that was desolate, is become like the garden of Eden ; and the walte, and defolate, and ruined cities, are become fenced, and inhabite ed.” What can be plainer than this ? . v

7. In the thousand years the voice of health will be general. ly heard through the world among those who are not of the raised or changed fairits.

From one place in Isaiah, it appears to me that women will bring forth children without that sorrow which was promised to Eve, or that danger which is now common among women, and that children will not die in infancy, as they do now..

All these things are mentioned in Isaiah lxv. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, "And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy
