with the river of God; thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly, thou settlest the furrows thereof; thou makest it soft with showers ; thou blessest the springing thereof; thou crownest the year with thy goodness, and thy paths drop fatness. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn ; they shout for joy; they also sing.”

“Thou art good unto all; and thy tender mercies are over all thy works.” “ Thou makest thy sun to rise on the evil and the good, thou sendest rain on the just and on the unjust.” “ Thou art merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in mercy and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, and forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin." As the heaven is high above the earth, so great is thy mercy toward them that fear thee ; as far as the east is from the west, so far hast thou removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him."

“ Whither shall we go from thy spirit ? or whither shall we flee from thy presence? If we ascend into heaven, thou art there ; if we make our bed in hell, behold thou art there. If we take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead us, and thy right hand shall hold us.” “ Thine eyes are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. Darkness and light are both alike to thee.”

“ Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. Of old thou hast laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure ; yea, all of them shall wax old as a garment ; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed ; but thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.”

“ Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.” « Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.” “ Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever;" " and blessed be his glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory : amen and amen.”

COURSE OF SCRIPTURE READING.

[The following course of Scripture Reading is recommended by that excellent Christian and eminent Divine, the late Bishop Porteus, as equally adapted for the closet, the family, or the school ; the less luminous portions, with the Jewish ceremonial laws, genealogies, and other subjects not so important or interesting to youthful readers being reserved for their future and more matured reflection.]

OLD TESTAMENT.

The chapters with the letter (h) placed after the figure, are historical. The others are more exclusively of a spiritual and moral nature, and highly suitable for occasional meditation, and particularly adapted to be read alone by young persons to their parents or sick friends ; thus saving them the embarrassment and loss of time which frequently accrue from their being called upon to select passages on their own judgment.
