THIS extraordinary female, of whom the following is a slight sketch, was born at Ilchester, in Somersetshire, September 11, 1674. It is recorded of her, that, at twelve years of age, she began to write poetry; and she as early discovered a taste to the sister art of painting; for when she had scarcely strength or steadiness of hand to guide the pencil she would squeeze out the juice of herbs to serve her instead of colours; this never ceased to be her amusement, at various intervals, until her death.
