On an URN (now ereding) to the memory of WILL. SHENSTONE, Efq; in Hales-Owen church-yard. By Mr. G.
HOE'ER thou art, with reverence tread
Thefe facred manfions of the dead.-
Not that the monumental buft
Or fumptuous tonib here guards the duft
Of rich or great: (Let wealth, rank, birth,
Sleep undistinguished in the earth ;)
This fimple urn records a name
That shines with more exalted fame.
Reader if genius, taste refin'd,
A native elegance of mind;
If virtue, fcience, manly fense;
If wit, that never gave
offence;
The clearest head, the tendereft heart,
In thy efteem e'er claimed a part;
Ah! fmite thy brealt, and drop a tear;
For, know, thy Shenftone's duft lies here.
