Horfes to be entered by the

HAT from and after the twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand seven hundred and forty, no perfon or perfons whatsoever fhall enter, start, or run any horfe, mare, or gelding, for any Plate, Prize, Sum of Money, or other thing, unless fuch horfe, mare, or gelding, fhall be truly and bona fide the property of, and belonging to fuch perfon fo entering, ftarting, or running the fame horse, mare, or gelding; nor fhall any one perfon enter and start more than one horse, mare, or gelding, for one and the fame Plate, Prize, Sum of Money, or other thing; and in Cafe any Perfon or Perfons fhall, after the faid twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand seven hundred and forty, enter, flart, or

run any horfe, mare, or gelding, not being the property, truly and bona fide, of fuch perfon fo entering, ftarting, or running the fame for any Plate, Prize, Sum of Money or other thing, the faid: horfe, mare, or gelding, or the value thereof, fhall be forfeited; to be fued for and recovered, and difpofed of in manner as is herein- : after mentioned; and in cafe any perfon or perfons fhall enter and flart more than one horfe, mare, or gelding, for one and the fame Plate,^ Prize, Sum of Money, or other thing; every fuch: horfe, mare, or gelding, other than the first entered horfe, mare, or gelding, or the value thereof, fhall be forfeited; to be fued for and recovered, and dif posed of in manner as herein-after is mentioned.

Penalty of 2001. for running for less than 50l.

Penalty of 100l. for advertifing Prizes of less value than 50%

Races to be begun and ended in one day.

Matches may

be run at New market Black Hambleton, for any Sum under

501.

Any person that shall enter, start, or run a horse, mare, or gelding, for lefs value than fifty pounds, for feits the fum of two hundred pounds.

Every perfon that fhall print, publish, advertise, or proclaim any money, or other thing, to be run for, of lefs value than fifty pounds, forfeits the fum of one hundred pounds.

Provided that every Race that fhall be thereafter run, for any Plate, Prize, or Sum of Money, be begun and ended in one day.

Horfes may run for any fum on Newmarket-Heath, in the Counties of Cambridge and Suffolk, and Black Hambleton, in the County of York, without incurring any penalty.

And it is further enacted, by the authority afore faid, That from and after the twenty-fourth day of
