to your lordships for having so long detained you; I owe some, perhaps, for having presumed to bring forward a subject, which ought to have been placed in better hands. But I trust that the circumstances which I have already stated have vindicated me from the charge of voluntary presumption. It is the duty of every man to throw his mite into your treasury. In the present instance it was my peculiar. duty to discharge a sacred trust, to take care that the opinions of my departed friend should not be buried in his grave, and to labour not only with zeal, but with perseverance, to accomplish an object which I know to have been so near his heart."
