In this anthology, readers are first introduced to the historical and cultural context of each of six theatrical eras from 1606 to 2000. Then, scenes from the outstanding plays of each era bring the picture to life. From the early years of spirited, garrison theatricals to the golden era of melodrama in the 1890s to the contemporary Canadian theater of Tremblay, French and Highway.
