I CO R. XV. 21.

For fince by Man came Death, by Man came alfo the Refurrection of the Dead.

I.

HAT are we to underftand by the
Refurrection of the Dead?

WE

IL. How doth it appear that the Dead fhall rife again?

III. How doth it appear that the fame Body fhall rife again?

IV. Wherefore the Refurrection is faid to come by Chrift?

V. What will be the Confequents of it?

I. What are we to understand by the Refur rection of the Dead?

1. Man hath Two integral and effential Parts, a Soul and Body.

2. So long as thefe Two Parts are united, the Man is faid to live.

→. When the One is feparated from the other, then the Man is faid to die, and cease to be a Man.

4.

If thefe Two Parts, after Separation, be reunited, then the Man that was dead is properly faid to rife again, as in Chrift's Refurrection, Job. xx. 27, 20.

II. How doth it appear the Dead shall rife? 1. It is poffible. God can do it:

1. From the infinite Wisdom of God, who knows every Part of every Body, Pfal.cxxxix. 45, 16. Matt. X. 291⁄2 30. 2. From

2. From his infinite Power, to whom nothing is impoffible, Matt. xix. 26. Pfal. cxxxv. 6. 2. It is certain God will do it.

1. From the Old Teftament. Job xix. 25. Dan. xii. 2. Exod. iii. 6. cited by Chrift, Matt. xxii. 32. Acts xxiii. 6. c. xxiv. 21.

2. From the New.

3.

1. From those whom Chrift raised, Mark v. 41, 42. Luke vii. 12, 15. John xi. 39, 43. 2. From Chrift's own Refurrection, 1 Cor. xv. 12, 20.

3. From exprefs Affertions of it, I Cor. xv. 52. 1 Theff. iv. 16. Acts iv. 2.

From Reason. Because we are capable of doing Good or Evil, and fo of everlasting Rewards and Punishments, as Men; and fo as having Bodies as well as Souls.

III. How doth it appear that the fame Body fhall rise again?

1. From the Nature of the Refurrection: For unless it be the fame Body and Soul,it is no Refurrection.

2. From the End of the Refurrection, that all may be judged, 2 Cor. v. 10.

3. From Chrift's Refurrection, Luke xxiv. 39. 4. From exprefs Teftimonies of Scripture, Job xix. 26, 27. 1 Cor. xv. 53. 1 Thell. iv. 16, 17.

IV. Why is the Refurrection here faid to come by Chrift?

Because it is by him we shall be raised, Job.vi.

39, 40.

All Power is given unto him, Matt. xxviii. 18: He is Lord both of the Dead and Living,Rom. xiv. 9. not of the Dead as dead, but as by him to be raised again,

By

By this Means he will deftroy Death it felf, I Cor. XV. 25, 26.

V. What will be the Confequent of the Refurrection?

Judgment, John v. 28, 29. Matt. XXV. 31, 32, 34, 4I.

USE.

2. Be thankful to our Saviour for his Conqueft over Death, 2 Tim. i. 10.

3. Arm us against the Fear of Death, 1 Cor. xv.

54, 57.

4. Keep us from immoderate Sorrow for the Death of our Friends, I Theff. iv. 13.
