2. Why is God faid to be Almighty? A. Because he can do what he will, Pfal.cxv. 3. But our God is in the Heavens, be bath done whatfoever be pleafed. Pfal. cxxxv. 6. Whatsoever the Lord pleafed, that did be in beaven and in earth, in the feas and all deep places. Matth. xix. 26. But Jefus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impoffible, but with God all things are poffible.

2. How doth God do what he will?

A. Only by willing it fhould be done, Matth. viii. 3. And Jefus put forth bis band and touched bim, faying, Iwill, be thou clean; and immediately bis leprofie was cleanfed. Mar. vii. 34, 35. And looking up to Heaven be fighed, and faith unto bim Ephphatba, that is, be opened; and ftraitway bis ears were opened, and the ftring of his tongue was loofed, and be fpake plain. Gen. i. 3. And God faid, let there be light; and there was light.

2. Can none then refift his Will?

A. No, Rom. ix. 19. Thou wilt fay then unto me, why doth be yet find fault? for who barb refifted his will? Tit. i. 2. In hope of eternal life, which God that cannot lie promifed before the World began. Heb. vi. 18. That by two immutable things in which it was impoffible for God to lie, we might have a strong confolation, who have fled for refuge to lay bold upon the hope fet before us.

2. What follows from God's being Almighty?

A. I That we should fubmit to his will, Mar xiv. 36. And be faid. Abba, Father, all things are poffble unto thee, take away this cup from me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.

2. Fear him, Matth. x. 28. And fear not them which kill the Body, but are not able to kill the Soul: but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both Soul and Body in Hell.

3. And truft on him, Pfal. xxxvii. 3, 4, 5. Trust in the Lord, and do good, fo fhalt thou dwell in the Land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thy felf alfo in the Lord, and he shall give thee the defires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust alfo in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

Maker of Heaven and Earth.

Q. What is meant by Heaven and Earth?

A. The whole World with all things in it, Ats 17. 24. God that made the World, and all things therein, Seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in Temples made with hands.

Q. What did he make all things of?

A. Of nothing, Gen. i. 1. In the beginning God

created the heaven and the earth.

Q. How did he make them?

A. By his word, Gen. i. 3. And God faid, let there be light, and there was light. Heb. xi. 3. Through Faith we understand that the Worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are feen were not made of things which do appear.

Q. How long was he making it?

A. Six Days; that we may better difcern his Wisdom and Power it it, Light and Plants were before the Sun.

Q. Why did God make all things?

A. For his own Glory, Prov. xvi. 4. The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea even the wicked for the day of evil. Rom. ix. 20. Nay but, O Man, who art thou that repliest against God? fhall the thing fomed fay to him that formed it, why haft thou made me thus ?

A. 1. That God is the Lord of Hofts, Gen. iì. I. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the Hoft of them. Acts xvii. 24. God that made the World, and all things therein, feeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in Temples made with hands.

2. That we ought to admire and praise him, Pfal. cxlviii. 5, 6. Let them praise the name of the Lord: For he commanded and they were created. He hath alfo eftablished them for ever and ever: He hath made a Decree which fhall not pass. Apoc. iv. 11. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive Glory and Honour and Power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy Pleafure they are and were created.

3. Obey and ferve him, 1 Cor. vi. 10. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your Spirit, which are God's. Pfal. xcv. 6. O come, let us worship and bow down : Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Q. Doth God ftill uphold the World?

A. Yes, Heb. i. 3. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the exprefs image of his perfon, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by bimfelf purged our Sins, fat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Acts xvii. 28. For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own Poets have faid, for we are also his OffSpring. Rom. xi. 36. For of him, and through him, and to him are all things; to whom be glory for ever.

Q. Doth he alfo order all things?

A. Yes, Eph. i. 11. In whom alfo we have obtain ed an Inheritance, being predeftinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the Councel of his own Will. John v. 17. But Jesus answered them, my Father worketh hitherto, and I work

Q. Can nothing happen without his Providence? A. No, Matth. X. 29, 30. Are not two Sparrows fold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very Hairs of your Head are all numbred. Prov. xvi. 33. The lot is caft into the lap; but the whole difpofing thereof is of the Lord. Exod. xxi. 13. And if a Man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand, then I will appoint thee a place whither he fhall flee. Deut. xix. 4, 5. And this is the cafe of the layer which shall flee thither that he may live; Whofo killerh his Neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past, as when a Man goeth into the Wood with his Neighbour, to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the Ax to cut down the Tree,and the Head flippeth from the Helve, and lighteth upon his Neighbour that he die; he shall flee unto one of thofe Cities, and live

Q. What ufe is to be made of this?

A. 1. To thank God for a I things we have, i Thef. v.18. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Chrift Jefus concerning you.

2. To fubmit to his Will, 1 Sam. iii. 18. And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he faid, it is the Lord: let him do what feemeth him good. Job i. 21. And Job faid, Naked came I out of mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away ; Bleffed be the name of the Lord.

3. To love and please him, Rom. viii. 28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to bis purpose.

Q. Who is he that is here called Jesus?

A. Our Saviour.

Q. When was this Name given him?

A..At his Circumcifion, Luc. i, 31. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and fhalt call his name Fefus. Luc. ii. 21. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcifing of the child, his name was called Jefus, which was fo named of the Angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Q. Why is he called Jesus?

A. Because he is our Saviour, Matth. i, 21. And She fhall bring forth a Son, and thon fiale call his Name Jefus. For he shall fave his People from their Sins.

Q. Is he our only Saviour?

A. Yes, Act. iv. 12. Neither is there Salvation in any other, for there is none other Name under Heaven given among Men, whereby we must be faved. 1 Tim., ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and Men, the Man Christ Jesus.

Q. Is he able to fave us all?

A. Yes, Heb. vii. 25. Wherefore, he is able alfe to fave them to the uttermoft, that some unto God by him, feeing he ever liveth to make Interceffion for them. John v. 17. But Jesus anfivered them, my Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

Q. Why is he alone able to do it?

A. Because he only is both God and Man, Matth. i. 23. Behold a Virgin fhall be with Child, and fhall bring forth a Son, and they shall call his Name Emmanuel, which being interpreted, is God with us.

Q. What Ule is to be made of this?

A. 1. Hence we are to truft in him only for Sal vation and all things neceffary to it, its v. 31. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give Repentance to Ifrael, and Forgiveness of Sins.
