What must we do for it?

A. Believe, Job. iii. 16. For God fo loved the World, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him, should not perish but have everlasting life.

Amen.

2. What doth Amen fignifie?

A. Truth, ON 17N1, Ifa. Ixv. 16. That be bo bleffeth himself in the earth, fall bless himself in the God of Truth, and be that sweareth in the earth, shall swear by the God of Truth; because the

former troubles are forgotten, and because they are bid from mine eyes.

2. When used?

A. After Prayers, Deut. xxvii. 15. Curfed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination to the Lord, the works of the bands of the crafffman, and putteth it in a fecret place: and all the people fall answer and fay, Amen. Neh. v. 13. Alfo Ifbook my lap, and faid, fo God Shake out every Man from bis Houfe, and from bis labour, that performeth not this promife, even thus be fhaken out, and emptied; and all the Congregation faid, Amen, and praised the Lord; And the people did according to this promife.

And Ezra blessed the Lord the great God: and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: And they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground. Pfal. lxxxix. 52. Blefjed be the Lord for evermore, Amen, and Amen. Pfal. cvi. 48. Blessed be the Lord God of Ifrael from everlasting to everlasting, and let all the people Say Amen. Praife ye the Lord. Rev. vii. 12. Saying, Amen: Bleffing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might be unto our God for ever and ever, Amen.

2. What doth it fignifie there?

A. So be it, Jer. xxviii. 6. The Prophet Feremiah faid, Amen: The Lord do fo, the Lord perform thy words which thou haft prophefied, to bring again the Veffels of the Lord's house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this Place. 1 King i. 36 And Benaiah the Son of Jehoiada anfwered the King, and said, Amen: the Lord God of my Lord the King fay fo too. 1 Cor. xiv. 16. 2. What elfe doth it fignify?

A. Truly, verily, fo it is, 'Auv xéyw iμïv. Mat. xvi. 28. Verily I fay unto you, there be fome ftanding here, which shall not taste of Death, till they fee the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom. Axns, Luke ix. 27. But I tell you of a truth there be Some Standing bere which shall not taste of Death, till they fee the Kingdom of God. 'Aur Aurv, Joh. iii. 3. Fefus answered and faid unto him, Verily, verily, I fay unto thee, except a Man be born again be cannot fee the Kingdom of God.

O'Au, of Chrift, Apoc. ii. 14. and unto the Angel of the Church of the Laodiceans, write thefe things faith the Amen, the faithful and true witnefs, the beginning of the creation of God. To vai, to the Gentiles. To duny, to the Jews, 2 Cor. i. 20. For all the promises of God in him are Tea, and in him Amen, unto the Glory of God by us.

2. Where thus used?

A. At the end of the Gofpels and Creeds, as here; and in the Commination, where it is not curfedis, but curfed be, as Deuteronomy xxvii. from V. 15. to the end.
