USE.

If Christ be truly GOD; then

1. Believe ftedfastly in Him, S. Fab. x. 26. 2. Trust in Him for all Things neceflary to Salvation, Pfal. xxvii. 1. Phil. iv. 13.

3. Serve and honour Him as fuch, S. Joh. v. 23. and xii. 26.

4. What infinite Caufe have we to praise and magnify the Eternal GOD our Saviour, who tho' one with the Father, yet was graciously pleas'd to allume our Nature, and fuffer in our Stead, that He might make us the Sons of GOD, and Heirs of Glory, 2 Cor. viii. 9. Phil. ii. 5-11.

III. DOCTRINE.

They that believe in this Jefus Chrift, the Son of GOD, fhall have Life through His Name, S.Joh. iii. 16. and vi. 68.

1. What it is to believe? Att. viii. 37. and XV. 7.

He that would believe,

2. What are we to understand by Life? There

1. A Natural Life, fuch as not only Mankind, but the Birds, Beafts, Fishes, &c. live at prefent, Gen. vi. 17. Jon. i. 14. Rev. viii. 9.

2. A Spiritual Life, Gal.ii.20. and iii. 1 1. Eph. ii. 1. Rom. viii. 4, 5. and vi. 11.

3. An Eternal Life in infinite and immortal Glory and Happiness, Rom. ii. 7. 2 Tim.

i. 10.

They are the two laft Species of Life that are promised to Believers, as being the Purchase of our Saviour's Death, 1 Cor. ii. 14. 2 Theff. i. 8, 9. S. Joh. v. 39, 40.

3. How does it appear that they who believe in Chrift fhall thus live through Him?

1. From the Promifes of GOD, S. Luk. ii. 32. S. Joh. iii. 14, 15, 36. and x. 9, 10.

2. From the End of Chrift's doing what he did for us, Rom. vi. 23.

1. In affuming our Nature, S. Job, iii. 17. Hebr. ii. 14, 15. 1 S. Joh. iv. 9.

1. What was this Day of Pentecoft?

The 14th Day of the Month Nifan, was call'd Πάχα, the isth, ἑορτὴ τὸ πάχα, υεὶ ἑορτὴ τω αζύμων, vel πρώτη το πάχα, the 16th, Julieg wága, hence they counted 50 Days to the Feast of Weeks, Levit. xxiii. 15. Deut. xvi. 9.

1. Why on this Day?

1. Because the Law was given the 50th Day after the Passover. Poftquam Pafcha, occifo Agno, celebraverant, dies quinquaginta numerantur, ufque ad diem, quo Lex data eft in monte Sina, Aug. epift. ad Jan.
