? Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil-speaking, be put away from you, with all mnalice.

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Let us not be desirous of vain-glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

* Foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servants of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle unto all men.

Strive not with a man without cause; if he have done thee no harm.

Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour have put thee to shame.

'Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself, and discover not a secret to another; lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

* The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention before it be meddled with.

As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

10 Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale-bearer among thy people.

11 Where no wood is there the fire goeth out, so where there is no tale-bearer, the strife ceaseth. For a tale-bearer revealeth secrets, and a whisperer sepa

rateth friends; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

Only by pride cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease. For scornful men bring a city into a snare; but wise men turn away wrath.

* From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members ? * He loveth transgression that loveth strife.

It is an honour for a man to cease from strife, but every fool will be meddling.

6 The lot causeth contention to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

Whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions; Are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul, and another I am of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ: Are ye not carnal? Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul ? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

If ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not. For this wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish ; but the wisdom that is from above is peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated.

that they which are approved may be made manifest. But woe unto them through whom these offences come.

'He that will love life, and see good days, let him seek peace,

and ensue it. * Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed ? * Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.

bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

• Whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.

Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God. But him that soweth discord among brethren, the Lord hateth.

tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.

1 Ye must be faithful in all things. In all your labours let none iniquity be found in you.

? He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

It is joy to the just to do judgment. * To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

If a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right; hath not oppressed any, hath spoiled none by violence, hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, and hath executed true judgment between man and man; he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.

• Let none of you imagine evil against his brother : in your heart.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

He that deviseth to do evil, shall be called a mischievous person.

done unto him: his reward shall return upon his own head.

1 Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee.

Murder. Thou shalt not kill.

Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made he man.

Surely, saith God, the blood of your lives will I require. At the hand of every beast will I require it; and at the hand of man, at the hand of every man's brother, will I require the life of man.

If any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him and smite him mortally that he die; thine eye shall not pity him; but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from the land.

• But whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly or unawares, whom he hated not in time past; or if he thrust him suddenly, without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing, without laying of wait, and
