1 If a man smite his servant, and he die under his hand, he shall be surely punished.

'If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.

Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify against any person, to cause him to die.

Ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death. For blood it defileth the land;

and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

5 Woe unto them that shed the blood of war in peace; and that condemn and kill the just, and he doth not resist them.

The Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful men; and they shall not live out half their days.

If men strive together, and one smite another, and he die not, but keepeth his bed; if he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit, only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

* If a man cause a blemish in his neighbour ; as he hath done so shall it be done unto him.

If men strive and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow; he shall be surely punished according as the woman's husband lay upon him; and he shall pay the judges determine.

Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. Adultery. * Thou shalt not commit adultery.

$ If a man committeth adultery with another man's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

• If any man's wife hath gone aside to another, instead of her husband, she shall be a curse among her people.

Whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he that doth it, destroyeth his own soul. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. For jealousy is the rage of a man; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance: he will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money, according to the dowry of virgins. I Thou shalt not steal.

Stealing. 2 Thou shalt not rob thy neighbour.

3 He that stealeth a man, and selleth him ; or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

* If a man shall steal an ox or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. If the theft be found in his

* If a thief be found breaking up, he shall make full restitution; and if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill : but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thy hand, but thou shalt not move a sickle into thy neighbour's standing

5 If a man borrow aught of his neighbour, and it be hurt or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good: but if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good. If it be an hired thing, it came for its hire.

For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his; the cause of both parties shall come before the judges, and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.

the gate, for the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

1 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant, that is poor and needy. At his day thou shalt give him his hire, his wages shall not abide with thee all night until the morning, for he is poor and setteth his heart upon it, lest he cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin unto thee.

Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work.

• He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker.

poor man that oppresseth the poor, is like a sweeping rain, which leaveth no food.

5 If thou sell ought unto thy neighbour, or buyest ought of thy neighbour's hands, ye shall not oppress one another.

6 If thou lend money to any that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.

What mean ye, that ye grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord of hosts.

* He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, shall surely come to want.

9 Woe unto them that have made dishonest gain by usury and increase, and have greedily gained of their neighbours by extortion, or by the iniquity of their traffic.
