An Act more effectually to pro hibit and prevent Paftors or Minifters from officiating in Epifcopal Meeting-houfes in Scotland, without duly quali fying themselves according to Law; and to punish Perfons for reforting to any Meetingboufes where fuch unqualified Paftors or Minifters hall officiate. W HEREAS it is noto- Preamble, ing the Reign of His prefent A 2 houfes 1 4 Anno Regni decimo nono houses have been fet up and maintained in the City of Edinburgh, and other Parts of Scotland, by Perfons profeffing to be of the Epifcopal Communion, whereof the Paftors or Ministers have never taken the Oaths to His Majefty, or His Royal Father; nor ever did, in exprefs Words, during the Exercife of Divine Service, pray for His Majefty, and the Royal Family; by Means whereof, thofe illegal Meetings have greatly contributed to excite and foment a Spirit of Difaffection amongst Numbers of Perfons in that Part of the Kingdom, against His Majefty's Perfon and Government; which hath been one of the Caufes of the wicked and unnatural Rebellion, lately raised and carried on against His Majesty, in Favour of a Popish Pretender: And whereas the Abuse of so much Lenity and Forbearance, as has. been been hitherto fhewn under the A 3 the Number of Meeting the: |
